Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" Takes Over In This Week's US Pop Music Charts

Last fall Carly Rae Jepsen went to #1 on the pop singles chart in her native Canada with the ultra-catchy "Call Me Maybe." The song was first released as a digital download in the US back in February. It climbed the charts slowly at first, but then with a big boost from Justin Bieber, the protege has outdone her supporter. Justin Bieber has not yet had a #1 hit single, but Carly Rae Jepsen climbs all the way to the top with her first hit. Elsewhere Adele returns for one more round at the top of the album chart. The-Dream Urges Pusha T To Make Great Records, Not Dis Records

'The only way that we can respond is make great records,' Dream tells MTV News of Pusha/ Lil Wayne beef.

The-Dream just wants to kill the competition — with his success. When asked if Team Pusha T would indulge in a rap beef and aim a dis record at Lil Wayne, he downplayed the importance of a response record and stressed the need for a good record.

"The only way that we can respond is make great records, and nobody is gonna beat me at that," The-Dream told MTV News when we caught up with him in Hollywood last week.

The-Dream helped Pusha put together his latest single "Exodus 23:1," the Notorious B.I.G.-inspired track that many believe is aimed at Lil Wayne. Weezy himself took offense and on May 25, just days after Push's track hit the Net, released "Ghoulish" in response.

"F--- Pusha T and everybody that love 'em," Tunechi rapped at the top of the Swizz Beatz-produced record.

The-Dream, who has been working with Pusha on his upcoming solo album, said that "Exodus 23:1" wasn't meant to be a YMCMB dis. "I had actually no idea that anybody would jump out the window [thinking] that personally ... it was about them," he said. "It kinda took me and the clique by surprise."

On the track, the Clipse rapper spits, "You signed to one n---a, that's signed to another n---a, that's signed to three n---as — now that's bad luck." Many fans thought those lyrics were targeted at Wayne, Drake and their YMCMB squad.

Not the case, The-Dream said. The singer/songwriter told us he isn't down with subliminal disses, remembering a lesson that his grandfather once taught him: " 'If you're talking to somebody, you speak to them or you just walk up to them and slap them.' I think beef is so '96. It's like, what's the point?

"I don't think anybody is actually that good enough to direct anything at anyone," he continued. "You can't take that much time, there's too much money in the words that either one of us have — me or Pusha — to direct directly at anyone."

Keira Knightley Promises More 'Theatrical' 'Anna Karenina'

Director Joe Wright is once again teaming up with Knightley to bring the classic Russian novel to the big screen.

Anytime Keira Knightley and director Joe Wright meet up, there's sure to be a stylish literary adaptation left in their wake. The duo has collaborated on two ambitious projects to date, Jane Austen's most famous novel, "Pride & Prejudice," and "Atonement," a so-called inadaptable novel by Ian McEwan.

And now, they're teaming up again to take on a classic work of Russian literature, Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina."

Knightley spoke with MTV News while promoting her new film "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," and she tried to explain what it is about working with Wright that makes her tackle such ambitious stories and keep coming back for more.

The actress said she couldn't know for sure what makes the partnership work so well, but pointed to several similarities that certainly help. "I don't know what it is. We really get on. Obviously we do, otherwise we wouldn't work together so many times," she said. "We have a similar aesthetic. I think we have a similar way of viewing the world and the kind of interests in it. Clearly, we both love literature. That helps."

With this kind of working relationship, Knightley said she has never known why they work or don't work. "I just think it's one of those things. It's down to chemistry," she said. "When it's films, it's down to liking a similar sort of film and similar sort of vibe, so you can understand each other."

For their third collaboration, however, things will be different. According to Knightley, the look of "Anna Karenina" will be much more theatrical than both "Pride & Prejudice" and "Atonement."

"The only similarity, I think, in the work is that they're both based on novels. I think this one is very different, but then I would say that 'Atonement' is very different from 'Pride & Prejudice,' " she said. "This one's very different in that it's much more theatrical. It's not a naturalistic take on the piece. It's a very theatrical, dramatic take on the piece, which for when the trailer comes out that will make a lot more sense, when people start seeing it."

But like their other films together, "Anna Karenina" is a difficult novel to adapt, so Knightley is hoping for the best. "It's incredibly difficult. It's obviously a wonderful, wonderful book, but it's a massive book, and trying to get that in the film, that's tricky," she said. "Hopefully ... the stuff I've seen is good, so we'll keep our fingers crossed."
