Lil B Drops I'm Gay

The Based God avoids mentioning homosexuality altogether on his latest release, despite controversial title.

Health care reform, Martin Luther King Jr. and self-hate — these are all topics referenced on Lil B's I'm Gay album. But homosexuality? Not so much. Late Wednesday night, the Based God dropped his controversially named LP with no warning but a single tweet at approximately 9 p.m. PT.

"Buy my new project I'm Gay now!" B wrote, with a link to iTunes.

There are no gossipy tidbits or out-the-closet revelations. Instead, B raps of mental slavery over a jazzy loop on the album's intro track "Trapped in Prison." When the Based God first announced the album's title in April at Coachella he drew criticism from rappers, death threats from fans and concerns from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation about whether the album was a gimmick.

In his defense, Lil B said that his intent for the album was to breakdown barriers and show that words don't mean anything. "Don't let a word make you discriminate upon another human," he said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" this past May. "Because at the end of the day, no matter what you do, I should be happy for you, because you're alive. You're living life."

In the commercial sense, there are no records aimed at radio and no kinetic, celebrity-themed anthems (see past Lil B singles "I'm Miley Cyrus" and "Ellen DeGeneres"). I'm Gay is filled with midtempo, soul-sampling tracks. "Unchain Me" finds the Berkeley, California, rapper pondering his place in the world, and on "Neva Stop Me," he addresses the haters. "Words can kill, why he call the album that and how the f--- he feel," he raps with a relaxed tone. "I Hate Myself" is one of B's strongest proclamations, as he says, "I see myself in the mirror, but I don't see nothing," and goes on to address racial profiling and media persecution.

His message is poignant, no doubt, but the album title is misleading as well. In April, Lil B denied any notion of being gay himself, but to barely address the issue on the LP is a glaring omission. "I'm very gay, but I love women," he said at the time, referring to the alternate meaning of the word. "I'm not attracted to men in any way. I've never been attracted to a man in my life. But yes I am gay, I'm so happy. I'm a gay, heterosexual male."

Are you "happy" with Lil B's I'm Gay? Share your reviews in the comments.

Lindsay Lohan Released From House Arrest

Actress will turn 25 this weekend.

Independence Day weekend has a new meaning for Lindsay Lohan. Thirty-five days ago, Lohan began her house arrest, and on Wednesday (June 29), the actress completed the sentence in connection with her recent theft case. The singer had been confined to her home in Venice, California, for the past four weeks.

"She completed her home detention today and she's now back under the supervision of the courts and probation," sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore confirmed to People. A source told E! News that Lohan's ankle bracelet has also been removed.

"I spoke with her yesterday and she told me she is eager to return to fulfilling her community service obligation, which she has been unable to perform during house arrest," her rep told E! Lohan still has to complete 360 hours working at the Downtown Women's Center in L.A. and then has 120 hours performing janitorial duties at the L.A. County Morgue. She has a year to complete her duties.

Lohan turns 25 on July 2. Rumor has it, the star will be in New York to celebrate; however, her rep just said, she'll be "with friends and family privately" celebrating.

Lohan appeared to be back in hot water earlier this month after she failed an alcohol test on June 13; she passed a drug test on June 9. Judge Stephanie Sautner ruled that the prior judge in the case only required controlled-substance testing from January 3 to February 25 of this year, meaning Lohan avoided any further punishment.

Eminem's 'Space Bound' Video Is 'Tricky,' Jim Jonsin Says

'It reminded me of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic' video, where she's got her and her two other egos in the car,' song's producer tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

Everyone seems to have their own take on Eminem's new "Space Bound" video, in which the Detroit MC commits suicide after finding out that his girlfriend is cheating on him. The song's producer, Jim Jonsin, likened the clip to a movie, and while the video is indeed shocking, he believes Eminem is clearly playing a character.

"Things happen in movies all the time. People kill themselves, people get killed, they kill other people," the multiplatinum producer explained to MTV News on Monday. "When my kids watch it, I like to explain to them in that manner: 'It's like a movie, ya know? He isn't really killing himself.' "

Jonsin, who was on set when the Joseph Kahn-directed vid was shot in February, suggested that viewers watch the clip a few times to figure out the plot and then draw their own conclusion.

"The video itself, it's tricky to figure out what's going on in certain scenes," he said. "It's going to take them a moment to figure out why he did it. It's not exactly spelled out, like, 'I killed myself because this girl drove me to it or she's cheating on me or she's texting some other dude,' or whatever it might be. So you're still guessing a little bit."

Another element of the video that can be interpreted in a few ways is the two different versions of Eminem that appear onscreen simultaneously. Sasha Grey, who plays the rapper's girlfriend in "Space Bound," sees one of the two Shadys as Em's subconscious. Jonsin had a similar take and compared the visual to Alanis Morissette's 1996 video for her hit single "Ironic."

"It reminded me of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic' video, where she's got her and her two other egos in the car," he said, before turning the conversation back to Em. "I think it was him living in the now as a person going through it and him living as a person who is witnessing it and can make other choices to not be in that scenario. Maybe he would've chose differently, so now he's watching himself."

How did you interpret Em's video? Let us know in the comments below!

Evanescence's New Album 'All Over The Place,' Amy Lee Says

Follow-up to The Open Door, due October 4, 'smacks you right in the face,' singer says.
By James Montgomery

Amy Lee is having a hard time talking about Evanescence's upcoming album, partially because she's out of practice — it's been a while since the band's frontwoman has had to run the press gauntlet, after all — but mostly because she keeps using words like "fun" to describe it. And even she realizes how odd that seems.

"I can't give a good quote about it, because it's probably the heaviest record we've ever done, but we're having a great time making it," the singer said, laughing. "I don't want to say the word 'fun,' but it is ... it's totally fun. We're just going for it. So I don't want to say that it's 'expressing the pain of a thousand sorrows,' because it's not that. I mean, it's just more mature; it's just a great record. It's hard to sum it up."

Of course, she's quick to add that "fun" doesn't necessarily mean "silly or poppy." "It doesn't translate right ... I'm having fun; we're all having fun," she explained, "And there are moments where you can hear that."

But Lee will be the first one to admit that, when Evanescence return in October with their first album in five years, they'll be a very different beast indeed. Case in point: the first single, which, though she won't reveal the title, is one she feels comfortable describing as a definite departure for the band.

"It's really different for us. It doesn't sound like any Evanescence track you've heard before," she said. "It's heavy, but the melodies and stuff, I feel like I just did what I wanted. I just literally sang what I wanted to sing, because it was fun and it kind of made me smile, and that ended up being the really fun, cool, catchy thing that got everybody hooked on it."

And though it's different, Lee knows that there's plenty riding on the band's comeback single, which is why, even if she was smiling when she recorded it, the song's still got plenty of the band's trademark growl, too. And the same goes for the album.

"You always have to think about that. We have to go through making the decisions with the label, and see what they're going to push," she explained. "We don't get to do whatever we want all the time, so the single has to sound like a hit. But, for us, we want more than that.

"There's a lot I want to get across all at once, before I lose anybody's attention. So, the song that I think is the first single is the song that wraps it all up. It's got a cool meaning, a lot of great lyrics going on, it also just smacks you right in the face and it's heavy and it's great ... I think that there's a couple songs that meet that same criteria."

To that end, though she (accidentally) uses words like "fun" to describe it, the new Evanescence album might just be the next logical step for the band: The same themes are there, but for the first time in her career, Lee is writing about them (and herself) in new ways. At the end of the day, as has always been the case, catharsis is key.

"There are themes of brokenness, the quest for freedom, and then there's songs that are just about falling in love ... it's just all over the place," she said, laughing. "There's this beautiful song that — it's definitely going to make the album, or I will kill someone — it's not like a single or anything, it's just this epic album track that's about loss from the perspective of someone losing someone in a tragedy, and it's really cool to listen back to that, too.

"That's not something I did on The Open Door. The Open Door was all about me and my personal experiences. And there's some moments on this one that are actually taken from things that I watched go down, from my friends and stuff like that. But really, whatever makes me feel the most, that's what's on the record, because that's what I need to get off my chest."

Chris Brown BET Award Snafu Was 'Human Error'

BET exec Stephen Hill takes full responsibility for Drake and Rihanna mistakenly being announced as Viewers' Choice.
By Rob Markman

Sunday night's 2011 BET Awards Show was filled with amazing live performances, heartfelt acceptance speeches and that one strange moment when a trophy was mistakenly handed out to the wrong artist.

When "106 & Park" hosts Terrance and Rocsi brought contest winner Tiffany Green onstage to announce the Viewers' Choice Award, Green, like all the other presenters of the night, read the winner from a tablet PC, instead of doing the traditional envelope-opening. At first, she called out Chris Brown as the victor, but then she backtracked and gave the trophy to Drake for his collaboration with Rihanna, "What's My Name?"

"Well, this awkward," said Drake to start his acceptance speech, after his and Rihanna's name appeared on the video screen. But then it turned out that the intended recipient was Chris Brown after all, and as the show neared its end, BET cleared up the confusion and brought Breezy out to accept the award.

An embarrassed Green took to Twitter and said, "Bawling backstage. They totally f---ed me up."

In a classy move, BET President of Music Programming and Specials Stephen Hill took full responsibility for the snafu. "That BET Awards Viewer's Choice mix-up was due to human error," he said in a tweet. "And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected."

It was just a single blemish on an otherwise event-filled show, which featured performances from Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Mary J. Bilge, Alicia Keys and Beyoncé, who performed remotely from the Glastonbury festival in England.

New Yorkers Celebrate 'Groundbreaking' Gay Marriage Passage

'This couldn't have come at a better time,' says Gay Pride Week participant outside the Stonewall Inn.
By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker

Photo: Spencer Platt/Getty Images

NEW YORK — With the historic passing of the same marriage equality bill in New York State on Friday night, the streets of the city have since been flooded with excited members of the LGBT community and other supporters on what just happens to be Gay Pride Week.

Crowds of people have continued to drop by the Stonewall Inn, the famous site that has come to be known as the birthplace of the world's gay rights movement following the infamous "Stonewall riots" that followed a police raid on the bar in 1969.

Erin Healy of Albany, New York, recalled the groundbreaking moment. "I was with my friends last night and everyone was like, 'The bill's going to get passed!' So we were like, 'Turn on the news!' and then all of a sudden it was like, '29 to 33, it's passed!' "

"I just think this is such a groundbreaking moment in gay history," expressed 21-year-old Brianna McDonald. "This vote was so important to the young crowd because it actually gives us something to look forward to, to get married if we want to."

"We are in the gayest part of town!" laughed Tony Benninelli of Queens, who was out with his friends in the West Village celebrating Gay Pride. "This couldn't have come at a better time."

Jesse Kissel was especially keen on noting the part that both the Stonewall Inn and New York City played when it came to this epic moment. "This is where it all started," he smiled. "This was where the revolution began, where people started realizing that we need rights and privileges."

The passing of the act gave Miami resident Jorge Orobitg a new hope for his own state. "New York is a big state," he said, "so that means we're heading in the right direction."

(Read how California residents reacted to the news.)

"Hopefully, this will sprout a nationwide thing," Erin Healy said. "It's just something ridiculous to me that it's taken even this long to happen."

'Bad Teacher': The Reviews Are In!

Critics grade Cameron Diaz's irreverent flick as it enters a mixed bag of summer comedies.
By Eric Ditzian

Cameron Diaz in "Bad Teacher"
Photo: Gemma LaMana

As "Bad Teacher" opens this weekend, it joins a mixed bag of summer comedies. While we're still giggling over certain "Bridesmaids" moments and can't wait to take in a second viewing on DVD, "The Hangover Part II" left us reaching for a copy of the original film to remind us why we were so taken with that boozy cinematic bunch. But hey, the second "Hangover" has grossed almost $500 million worldwide, so what the heck do we know?

The Cameron Diaz-starring laugher, according to the critics, falls closer to the letdown that was the second "Hangover" than the revelatory "Bridesmaids." Reviewers have criticized the film for plot holes galore and poor character development, even as most have admitted it delivers a hefty helping of laughs. Read on for a deeper dive into the critics' take on "Bad Teacher."

The Story
"Director Jake Kasdan coaxes some laughs out of the film, but only Jason Segel, as a cynical gym teacher, seems like a real person instead of a caricature. Everyone else seems like they're trying just a touch too hard. Elizabeth Halsey (Diaz) gets dumped by the rich guy she was going to marry for money, forcing her to come back for another year of teaching junior-high English. But she is not without goals; her immediate one is to figure out how to get enough money to pay for breast implants, which she thinks will help her more easily land a replacement sugar daddy. The operation is tough to afford on a teacher's salary, of course. But one day handsome Scott Delacorte (Timberlake), the heir to a watch-making fortune, shows up as a substitute teacher, giving Elizabeth a suitable target." — Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

The Performances
"The movie, of course, belongs to Diaz. She's always projected a sort of girlfriend-gone-wild sass that suggested she's a hell of a lot of fun after a couple of mango margaritas; 'Bad Teacher' is one of the few films that's allowed her to show that. And not only does she show it, she flaunts it, from a wardrobe that's tighter than next year's school budget to a vocabulary that's definitely not on any standardized test. But she's not alone. The wonderful Lucy Punch — the gold digger from 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' — is a nagging toothache as a too-perfect teacher. Comic actors such as Thomas Lennon drop by for brief but marvelous scenes, and Jason Segal is a menschy gym teacher. Justin Timberlake, however, remains too cool to really commit to his oddball character, a substitute teacher that the man-hungry Diaz fixates on." — Stephen Whitty, New Jersey Star-Ledger

The 'Bad' Comparisons
" 'Bad Teacher' wants to be 'Bad Santa' but it's afraid to go as far as Billy Bob Thornton's gleeful middle finger to holidays and proper treatment of children. So it ends up trapped in a nowhere middle-ground, somewhere between 'Bad Santa' and the equally hilarious but family friendly Jack Black movie 'School of Rock.' Both of those movies had somewhere to go and a way to get there, but 'Bad Teacher' just goes and doesn't really seem to know where it's going. The script has its moments and the cast has a few too." — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend

The Missteps
"The main problem with 'Bad Teacher' is that it's really just one joke, which is stretched further than the uneven script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (vets of TV's 'The Office') will permit. Jake Kasdan's flat direction doesn't help. ... 'Bad Teacher' has its amusing moments, but also many where you can't help wondering about the comedic choices. If you're going to have the hung-over instructor getting her young charges to watch movies all day, aren't there funnier picks than just a succession of teacher-themed movies? And if you've already decided your film is going to get an American 'R' rating — the profanity alone guarantees that — then why not take a few more risks with your comedy?" — Peter Howell, Toronto Star

The Final Word
" 'Bad Teacher' does not always connect with every joke, and there's one character in particular that seems to have been abandoned by the screenwriters midstream, but when the film works, it contains some wicked belly laughs, and I'll give Cameron Diaz credit for this: she seems delighted to play a total a--hole." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

Chris Brown Latest Celeb To Apologize For Using Gay Slur

Cee Lo Green, Tracy Morgan and Blake Shelton have also issued mea culpas recently for seemingly homophobic comments.
By Gil Kaufman

Chris Brown
Photo: Jason Kempin/ WireImage

On Wednesday, Chris Brown became the latest celebrity to apologize to the LGBT community for using a gay slur in anger. The singer issued a Twitter mea culpa for an incident on Tuesday in which he lashed out at several photographers in Los Angeles whom he believed had tipped off parking-enforcement officers to his illegally parked car, saying, "Y'all n---as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y'all n---as is gay!"

The comments came just days after comedian Tracy Morgan met with LGBT youth in New York following his anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up appearance, which earned the "30 Rock" star widespread scorn from the gay community for his seeming advocacy of violence against gay youth.

The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ that "invoking words to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable ... Brown should know better."

Brown, who has made outrageous digital comments before — including a homophobic attack on former B2K singer Raz B in December — only to ask forgiveness for them a short time later, issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing, "I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it."

A spokesperson for Brown could not be reached for comment at press time.

Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), told MTV News that while it may seem like this kind of casual homophobia is on the rise, what we're seeing might simply be a result of the increasingly interconnected nature of our society. "People are being filmed while getting a parking ticket and commenting on Twitter and there's more opportunity for the things celebrities say to reach the public," he said. "But I think celebrities and people in the public eye are also increasingly cognizant that they have to respect all of their fans, and when things happen, they have an interest in correcting that behavior."

Brown is certainly not alone in using words that may hurt some of his fans. Two members of the celebrity judging panel on NBC's hit reality singing show "The Voice" have also issued apologies recently for using anti-gay slurs. After a performance with Rihanna in Minneapolis last week, Cee Lo Green posted a Twitter response to a negative review by critic Andrea Swensson, writing, "I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f--- you!"

After the rant went viral, Green issued a public apology, telling Us Weekly, "I most certainly am not harboring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community. I don't have an opinion on people with different religious, sexual or political preferences," said Green, who added that he assumed the critic would understand that his comments were "all in good fun" and that he didn't mean any harm. "I'm one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on 'The Voice' are proud and outspokenly gay. We just did a team performance of 'Everyday People,' and I picked that song for us to do specifically to highlight how we can get along even though we're so different."

Similarly, fellow judge Blake Shelton landed in hot water last month when he tweeted the comment, "Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song ... Any man that tries touching my behind he's gonna be a beaten, bleedin', heaving kind of guy." The original lyrics are, "Any man of mine better walk the line/ Better show me a teasin', squeezin', pleasin' kinda time." GLAAD weighed in, suggesting that Shelton's comments sounded like a threat against any man who took a pass at him and demanded an apology.

Shelton quickly recanted in a series of tweets, writing, "Hey y'all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night ... It honestly wasn't even meant that way... I now know that [there] are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere ... But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings ... I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!"

After communicating with GLAAD, Shelton posted this final tweet: "@glaad hey I want my fans and @nbcthevoice fans to know that anti-gay and lesbian violence is unacceptable!!!!! Help me!!!! And DM me.."

Graddick said that with an American public that is more supportive of gay people than ever, not to mention more aware of the impact of harmful language, for better or worse, celebrities are often looked to to set the standard for acceptable behavior. "I think that language can be homophobic and people can as well," he said. "I'm not going to judge the intent of what [Brown] was saying; he was clearly pissed about a parking ticket. But his intent is less important than the actual impact. When people hear other people use the kind of language that makes 'gay' equivalent to 'bad,' it communicates a message, and it's important that people are aware of that. I don't think every time anyone has spoken those words their personal viewpoint is homophobic, but the impact can be damaging."

The string of public anti-gay slurs has also included a number of sports figures, such as Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was fined $100,000 for yelling anti-gay slurs at a referee in April, and the Chicago Bulls' Joakim Noah, who was fined $50,000 in May for directing an anti-gay slur at a fan during game three of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Ryan Dunn's Death Reminds Fans 'You're Not Indestructible'

Visitors to 'Jackass' star's roadside vigil see firsthand 'what drinking and driving can do.'
By Mary J. DiMeglio

WEST GOSHEN, Pennsylvania — Visitors who came in droves to the stretch of highway where Ryan Dunn's life ended said the deaths of the "Jackass" star and his passenger on Monday serve as a shocking warning that even someone as seemingly immortal as the daredevil couldn't survive the risk of drinking and driving.

"I hope a lot of kids in the community will see what happened to their role model. Maybe this sends a signal that you're not indestructible," said a West Goshen police officer, a father of two teens.

Laraine Livergood of Collegeville brought her three children to the crash site Wednesday night. "It shows what drinking and driving can do," she said. Daughter Valerie, a 15-year-old "Jackass" fan, called Dunn's death "heartbreaking." She and her two sisters, ages 11 and 8, taped a bright-orange poster board to the guardrail with the words, "RIP Ryan Dunn. We love you forever and always."

Accident-reconstruction teams have estimated that at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Dunn, who a preliminary toxicology report shows was intoxicated, was driving his 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 between 132 and 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. The Porsche collided with a guardrail and went soaring through about 40 yards of trees before hitting one and bursting into flames.

Dunn's family and friends, including "Jackass" stars Bam Margera and Johnny Knoxville, attended a private memorial service on Wednesday. A public service is expected to be announced at a later date.

A steady stream of fans, friends, family and those who are "just curious" have been stopping by at all times of day and night, police officer Joseph Burt said, displaying their love for the merry prankster with flowers, balloons, candles and dozens of Sharpie-scribbled messages on the guardrail.

Browse exclusive, on-scene photos of fan tributes to Dunn in Pennsylvania.

To ensure visitors' safety, officials were watching over the portion of the highway near the roadside vigil, which had been narrowed to one lane in each direction.

West Chester East High School student Tori Williams, 15, said that even though she knows accidents happen all the time, visiting the crash site left her shaken. "It makes me more scared to be a driver," she said.

The scene is disturbing: Skid marks on the highway lead to a long stretch of mangled trees that ends with a single, sturdy tree, blackened from top to bottom but still standing.

Joni Bradshaw, of West Chester, said she hopes young people learn a lesson from the tragedy: "Hopefully, it will teach these kids that you can't get behind the wheel and drive [after you've been drinking]," she said. "It causes nothing but problems and heartache for everyone."

Much to her dismay, her 18-year-old son, Will Bradshaw, said, "At least he went out having fun." Will admitted that even after a couple of his friends were killed while street racing three years ago, he and the rest of his peers have not been more careful when driving and probably won't be after this incident either. "People are gonna do what they're gonna do," he said matter-of-factly.

Chrissy Guthan, of Coatesville, agreed: "They shouldn't have been driving [drunk]. People do it all the time though. We've all done it," the 32-year-old confessed. "Sometimes, you don't make it back." Now that she's a mother, Guthan added, she avoids risky behavior. "But if I didn't have a kid, I'd probably still be doing it," she admitted.

According to the Chester County coroner's office, Dunn's blood alcohol level was .196, more than twice the .08 legal limit in Pennsylvania. The report also says there were no "drugs of abuse" detected in Dunn's system.

The coroner's report lists blunt force trauma and thermal trauma as the official causes of death for Dunn, 34, and his passenger, 30-year-old Iraq war vet Zachary Hartwell, who was credited as a production assistant on "Jackass Number Two" and was working with Dunn on his new G4 show, "Proving Ground."

Hours before the crash, Dunn tweeted a photo of himself, Hartwell and another man at Barnaby's of America, a West Chester bar.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday that Dunn received at least 23 driving-related citations in the past 13 years, 90 percent of which ended in guilty pleas, including 10 stops for speeding and careless driving and three more for driving with a suspended license. In 2005, he was arrested for drunken driving, but charges were dropped when he completed a probationary program; his license was suspended for more than a year, according to court records.

"He drove too fast," April Margera, mother of Dunn's best friend and "Jackass" co-star Bam Margera, told the local NBC station Monday. "I yelled at him all the time about that."

Sean Kingston Released From Hospital

Three weeks after jet-ski accident, pop singer was discharged on Tuesday, rep confirms to MTV News.

Sean Kingston is well on his way to recovery. The pop singer has been released from Jackson Memorial Hospital, three weeks after he was admitted for injuries stemming from a jet-ski accident in Miami Beach over the Memorial Day weekend.

A rep for Kingston confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (June 22) that the 21-year old singer was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The "Beautiful Girls" was initially hospitalized in critical condition after the Sea-Doo jet-ski he was piloting along with friend/ passenger Cassandra Sanchez, crashed into the Palm Island Bridge, which connects Palm Island to the MacArthur Causeway. According to Sanchez, 23, Kingston lost control of the jet-ski (one he reportedly purchased just days prior to the accident) because he was going too fast. A passerby in a boat, who happened to be an off-duty Coast Guard employee, helped the two out of the water and to safety.

Kingston (born Kisean Anderson) was admitted to the hospital on May 29, and moved to the ICU, a few days later, when his condition was downgraded to stable. (Sanchez was also admitted to the hospital but was discharged shortly thereafter with minimal injuries.) Although the singer is expected to make a full recovery, sources say he suffered a broken jaw, fractured wrist and water in his lungs.

But the Miami native looked healthy, even slimmer, a few days ago when he tweeted a picture of himself, in the hospital, along with the message, "Feeling alot better! GOD IS GREAT! Thanks for all the prayers and support! Love you ALL!"

The note to his well-wishers was his first tweet since the day of the accident.

Share your get-well wishes for Sean Kingston in the comments.

50 Cent Explains What Separates Him From Lady Gaga, Eminem

Fif tells MTV News his labelmates' singles 'go to top 40 and crossover radio immediately.'
By Rob Markman

Photo: Christopher Polk/ WireImage

50 Cent knows what it takes to make a hit record. The first step for him is the groundwork, usually in the form of a street single. Before "In Da Club," the G-Unit General set the streets on fire with "Wanksta," and before he took fans to the candy shop in 2005, Fif started off with "Disco Inferno."

For his fifth, yet-untitled LP — which he tweeted will now come out in November — things are no different. After blasting his label on Twitter last week, 50 decided to heat up the streets by dropping "Outlaw," his new Cardiak-produced street single.

When asked how his tried-and-true formula differs from that of Interscope labelmate Lady Gaga, Fif said their respective circumstances are incomparable.

"When you say Lady Gaga, a pop artist, they want them to just deliver a song," 50 said. "They don't have the mixshow radio platform to go through before they would actually go for adds on an actual record."

As opposed to mainstream pop artists, rappers who are viewed as more niche, for the most part, usually have to service a record that caters to late-night urban-radio formats where DJs blend records together in a continuous stream. The mixshows serve as a proving ground of sorts for edgier hip-hop music.

"Her records go to top 40 and crossover radio immediately. You can't really compare it to any artist that would be considered a pop artist or a white artist," 50 said of his circumstance in relation to Gaga's. "And I say that openly, because what we consider urban radio or rhythmic radio was referred to as black radio at one point. That right there is something that I am conscious of."

Still, 50 said he doesn't place any blame; instead, he simply points out the differences. He even talked about his method of landing records on the charts in relation to Eminem. Like Gaga, 50 points out that Slim Shady bypasses urban radio as well.

"You can't compare Eminem and 50 Cent's career on any level," he said. "Eminem doesn't know what the inside of Hot 97 looks like. He's never even had to go there. So the top 40 and crossover-radio platforms are detrimental to the success of an Eminem project, and for me to get to the top 40 or crossover space, I have to have music that performs so well on your Hot 97s and Power 106s of the world until it actually goes up to that point."

Last Thursday, before leaking "Outlaw," 50 tweeted that he wouldn't drop his new album in 2011 unless Interscope got "on the same page." 50 clarified to MTV News what many perceived as a serious rift between him and his label. "They're behind it, but to get everybody moving at the same beat and moving at the same pace is the object. That was what the goal was even writing that statement and releasing the song," he said.

What do you think of 50 Cent's radio theories? Let us know in the comments.

Britney Spears Fights Cyborg Paparazzi In 'I Wanna Go' Video

Chris Marrs Piliero-directed clip features 'Weeds' actor Guillermo Diaz.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears in her "I Wanna Go" music video
Photo: Jive

Britney Spears proved her comedic chops on the small screen in her cameo on "How I Met Your Mother," and now she's once again displaying her funny bone in the video for "I Wanna Go," which dropped Wednesday (June 22).

Like he did with Ke$ha before, director Chris Marrs Piliero makes off-kilter pop culture references and pokes fun at the idea of the sexy pop star. There's a number of Spears-related references, including a polka dot bikini top as an homage, perhaps, to Minnie Mouse, her skull-wearing Mickey Mouse ears T-shirt and a movie theater marquee that reads "Crossroads 2: Cross Harder."

Spears has touched on her relationship with the media in the past, but perhaps not with this much humor or self-deprecation.

The video opens with a press conference, where reporters ask the superstar crazy questions such as, "Is it true you banned junk food, smiles, candy, sunshine and laughter from your Femme Fatale Tour?" The answer: Yes, obviously.

"Can you confirm reports that you're pregnant with Brad Pitt's love child?" The answer: "That is false: It's quintuplets."

Eventually annoyed by the onslaught of increasingly dumb questions, Britney declares, "F--- you" to the reporters in the room. The only person who passes the test is "Weeds" and "Half Baked" star Guillermo Diaz, who is hanging out, wearing a hat that only the Burger King could love. She then dashes out onto the streets in her Avril Lavigne-worthy, pop-punk princess finest.

It seems Britney has decided to live life on her own terms. She grabs the bum of an autograph-seeking fan. Then, she flashes a group of men, and as a cop tries to arrest her, she has her way with him right there on the street. Britney just doesn't care anymore, and why should she? She's finally having fun.

Britney displays the sass and charm fans fell in love with a decade ago during performance shots, where she flirts with the camera, her eyes as big and wide as her smile.

Fans are back with her as she makes her way around town and, of course, the paparazzi have found her. For one photographer, she gives an impromptu fashion shoot before smashing his camera. And when she finds herself surrounded by more of his cronies, she takes them out one by one with any singer's best weapon: her microphone.

There's a surprising turn, however: As the mic slams itself against the photogs, pulling the skin off their bodies, it reveals that they are cyborgs, much to Brit's dismay. So, what's a girl to do?

She's rescued by Guillermo, who drives her through the desert. She dances in the car, wearing only a bikini top and miniskirt. And just when she thinks she's safe, it's revealed that he too is a cyborg. Can't Brit ever catch a break?

The video returns to the press conference, where the pop star awakes from a daydream and reveals, "Guillermo, I had the strangest dream."

"I love dreams," he tells her. "And seashells," he says, placing several in her hand. "Come on, let's get out of here."

But, is Britney truly safe with Guillermo? In an homage to the final frame of Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" video, the clip closes with Diaz turning his head toward the camera to reveal his red, glowing robot eyes.

Pitbull's Next Official Single "Rain Over Me" Features Marc Anthony

Pitbull is certainly an MVP when it comes to his appearances on hit records by other artists. He has been the featured performer on three top 5 pop hits in the past year. However, he is no slouch when it comes to finding his own featured singers. Ne-Yo's guest vocal is a major reason for the success of Pitbull's current single "Give Me Everything" that is locked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. For the follow up, Pitbull is enlisting the vocal talents of Marc Anthony, the best selling tropical salsa artist of all time. Marc Anthony is also of Puerto Rican descent like Pitbull which makes "Rain Over Me" a superstar Puerto Rican duet. Marc Anthony is probably best known to US pop culture fans as the husband of Jennifer Lopez. "Rain Over Me" is available for download with the release of Pitbull's album Planet Pit today. However, it doesn't officially head to pop radio until July 19, 2011 about the time "Give Me Everything" may be losing some steam. Check out "Rain Over Me" below.

Ryan Dunn's 'Jackass' TV Stunts: A Retrospective

From sewage-diving to corn-sledding, the late star's antics were sure to make viewers laugh and gasp.
By Gil Kaufman

Ryan Dunn in "Fisherman's Wharf" on "Jackass"
Photo: MTV

He was one of the less outspoken members of the "Jackass" crew, but late, bearded prankster Ryan Dunn made up in destruction and indelible stunts what he lacked in loudmouth bravado. The 34-year-old skateboarder, who died in an early morning car crash on Monday in Pennsylvania, stood his ground alongside such fellow daredevils as Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O in the "Jackass" TV show and movies, as well as on his 2005 MTV anti-home-improvement show "Homewreckers," the Margera-led spin-offs "Viva La Bam" and "Bam's Unholy Union," and his recently launched G4 show, "Proving Ground."

While some of the "Jackass" crew were known for placing themselves in front of paintball firing squads, walking on giant stilts off diving platforms or staging elaborate pranks on passersby, Dunn's "specialty" was riding BMX bikes into muddy creeks, getting slathered with nasty fish and human excrement and being dragged behind four-wheelers on all the wrong sleds.

In memory of Dunn, we decided to take a look back at some of his most memorable TV moments. (Head over to the Movies Blog for highlights from Dunn's "Jackass" movie career.)

"Poo Dive"
When MTV News sat down with the crew last fall, the "Jackass" stars agreed that one of their all-time favorite stunts was Dunn's first one for the original TV show, in which he dove into a tank of sewage.

"I loved when [Bam Margera] made Ryan jump into the poo factory, the 'Poo Dive' I think we called it," creator Jeff Tremaine said. " 'Cause that was horrible, but the best part was ... revealing his tattoos that we didn't know about. That was the first time we ever met Ryan." Dunn made his infamous dive while wearing just tighty whities that were duct taped onto his body and a snorkel. Though pal Bam Margera was grossed out by the floaters, Dunn called the dive, "exhilarating ... my skin is silky smooth!"

"Fisherman's Wharf"
"Why do I always do the jobs that make me smell real bad?" Dunn lamented as he agreed to dive into 32-degree water in San Francisco. After being tossed into a giant vat of sardines while wearing a black peacoat and fisherman's cap, Dunn emerged covered in slime, only to sit in an empty tank and get covered in sardine juice and a torrent of tiny fish.

"Snake River BMX"
Among Ryan's best bike gags on "Jackass" was the one when he tried to ride a crappy banana-seat bike up a ramshackle ramp and over a freezing, boggy creek. He never got close to hitting the landing ramp on the other side and eventually the cops arrived to break up the party.

"Corn Sledding"
Ryan looked supremely confident as he was pulled by a four-wheeler on a plastic sled through a cornfield at high speeds on "Jackass." He was impressively able to hang on for long periods and even got a bit patriotic when he was handed an American flag to wave on his ride. He finally bailed after being pulled over a hill and smashing his tailbone.

"Ice Barrel Jumping"
Dunn donned a blue unitard and matching crash helmet for a "Jackass"-staged barrel jumping competition against Big Brother magazine editor in chief Dave Carnie. He made it pretty easily over two barrels but got racked hard when the tally was upped to five. While Carnie easily cleared the hurdles, Dunn repeatedly landed on the cold, hard ice, eventually getting smashed over the head with a metal pail by Carnie.

"Office Chairs"
Wearing his best regular-guy drag (a lame suit and tie and nerdy eyeglasses), Dunn rode an office chair down a skate ramp in a joust with fellow "Jackass" and CKY regular Brandon DiCamillo. The pals smashed into each other in spectacular fashion over and over. Dunn later tried the trick while sitting behind a desk complete with computer and monitor.

"Hot Dog BMX"
Again taking his chances on a skate ramp, Dunn donned a hot dog suit and rode his BMX bike down into a spectacular crash. In true "Jackass" fashion, as he lays prone, a crew member runs up and squirts mustard in his mouth and all over his face.

Do you have a favorite Ryan Dunn stunt? Let us know or share your thoughts in comments below.

Have you heard? Britney's back! That's the consensus her fans came to on Monday night in Los Angeles, where Britney Spears took the stage at the Staples Center, garnering very positive reviews from her fans.

Rachel Guillory, who happens to be from Brit's home state of Louisiana, said, "She interacted with the audience. She talked, she looked happy the whole time."

Her friend Chandler Cortina added, "You can tell that she was having fun. She looked like she was enjoying herself and loving it."

The good vibes were pouring out from everyone MTV News spoke to after the show, with fans raving about her stage presence and her killer dance moves. "I'll tell you one thing: Britney is back," Andrea Urioste declared. "Who feels me on that?" she asked the crowd, who cheered in approval.

Photos: Britney brings it in Los Angeles.

Duprel Nave agreed. "I've been a Britney fan since the beginning. She rocked it and I've been waiting for her to come back," she said. "She gets so much criticism in the media, but she is badass. She's amazing."

Fan Heather Goodly compared this trek, which is several dates in from its kickoff last week in Sacramento, to her last tour. "I went to Circus and this is a thousand times better than that show," she said. "She dances a lot more fiercely, [there are] a lot more hair flips, which is amazing for Britney."

"It's like 2004, 2001 Britney is completely back. Energetic, excited," Ricardo Garcia shared.

So, which parts rocked the most? " 'I Wanna Go,' " Pattie Cortez said of Spears' performance of her new single. "That was our favorite part. It was so intense. Everybody was doing the fist pump."

Chris Rocha went old-school for his pick. "When she did 'Slave For U,' [with] the original choreography, that brought back the old Britney for me. I was waiting for that, and to see that come back, it was awesome."

Lady Gaga Releases Simple, Straightforward and Pleasing "The Edge Of Glory" Music Video

What would you think of a Lady Gaga video with no backup dancers, no plot line, and only one outfit? Well, check out the new clip for "The Edge Of Glory" below and find out. Clearly, the video follows the song's nodding references to classic 80's pop. The sexually alluring Versace outfit Lady Gaga wears certainly brings to mind classic work by Madonna. The solo dancing also seems to nod to Michael Jackson as well. "The Edge Of Glory" has some added poignance with its inclusion of Clarence Clemons playing the saxophone solo. He recently suffered a stroke...

Lady Gaga's 'Edge Of Glory': A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet

In her newest video, Gaga pays homage to classic clips of the 1980s.
By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga
Photo: Getty Images

The first thing that strikes you about Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory" video is the fact that it's steeped in the rich, gauzy traditions of classic pop clips and noticeably missing any of the allegories, agendas or, uh, afterbirth of her previous work.

Simply put, "Edge" is an homage to an entire genre of videos that has since gone by the wayside — namely, the eternally soft-focused, ethereal mini-movies of the 1980s, (mostly) pop productions that reimagined cityscapes as dream-like fantasy worlds, where the just-wet streets shone like mirrors, the manholes frothed with steam and no piece of fabric was left un-billowed. These were decidedly big-budget, unapologetically Hollywood things, shot on studio backlots, glowing with million-dollar lighting budgets and given extra grandeur thanks to sweeping, soaring crane shots. They made no attempt to portray reality as anything of the sort — because, much like the songs they accompanied, there was rebellion in that fantasy — or of hiding their excesses. And, not surprisingly, as the decade came to a close, and earnestness began to reign supreme, they slowly disappeared (surely, their big budgets didn't help their fate either).

But with her new clip, Gaga resurrects the epic videos of the '80s once again. And, seemingly, all at once. There truly are too many nods to the classics to list individually, and really, that's beside the point. With "The Edge of Glory," LG is paying tribute not to individual artists, but to an entire genre. Still, there are some whose influence stands above the rest, and we've combined them into one handy cheat sheet. Of course, in keeping with her tradition, not all of them come from the 1980s. Because if there's anything Lady Gaga has proven, it's that she refuses to be fenced in. Here's our list:

Bonnie Tyler: Welsh-born belter whose better-known videos (like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero") practically set the standard for the fantastical pop videos of the 1980s. Soft focus, arching crane shots, achingly staged lighting — they're all there, and they're all on display in "Edge of Glory" too.

Blondie, "Rapture": One of the earliest examples of the ethereal '80s (it was released in 1981), the video follows Debbie Harry on a dream-like traipse through the streets of New York City, complete with guest appearances by Fab Five Freddy and a shuffling Uncle Sam (to name just a few). It makes no sense, because it's not supposed to.

Cyndi Lauper: Gaga's good friend and, along with Madonna, perhaps the premier '80s video star, Lauper's classics — be they the good-natured rebellion of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" or the moody, arty "True Colors" — both seem like spiritual successors to "Edge."

"Fame": Epochal tale of performing-arts students living and loving in NYC during the early '80s, it's spirit and style have long influenced Gaga's work. With its dance moves and dreamy, freedom-in-the-streets scenes, "Edge" is perhaps the best example of that.

"Flashdance": Prototypical "girl finds escape in dance" film from 1983, it stars Jennifer Beals as a steelworker/dancer who dreams of a better life. Not only are the same sentiments echoed in "Edge," but Gaga pays tribute to the film's most memorable scene — where Beals reclines in a chair and is doused in water — by striking a similar pose outside her apartment building.

George Michael: Before he became known for his various, uh, exploits, Michael was the biggest British pop star of the 1980s, and as such, he churned out some appropriately huge music videos. Two of his biggest — "Father Figure" and "Careless Whisper" — seem to have influenced Gaga with their gauzy, steamy portrayals of late-night life in the big city and, in the case of "Whisper," that balls-out sax wailing.

Michael Jackson: You can't write anything about videos from the 1980s without mentioning MJ, who took the art form to rarely duplicated heights. Usually, his clips were fantastical things, but occasionally, he also got gritty, and it's those moments (videos like "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Billie Jean") that seem to have stuck in Gaga's mind.

"Newsies": The 1992 Disney musical is most notable for its initial "flop" status and its subsequent rebirth as a cult classic. It tells the story of newsboys on strike in New York City, and in classic scenes like Christian Bale's performance of the song "Santa Fe," it takes that struggle to the twisting fire escapes of the city. Sort of like "Edge of Glory," really.

"Rent": Broadway retelling of Puccini's "La bohème," set in the Lower East Side in the early 1990s. As some have noted, Lady Gaga seems to be paying tribute to the choreography of one particular number ("Out Tonight") as she dances on the fire escape.

"West Side Story": One of the best-loved Broadway musicals of all time, "Story" was remade as a film in 1961 and went on to win a whopping 10 Oscars, including Best Picture. As you can expect, there are plenty of street scenes and fire escapes in both the film and the stage show, but perhaps the most famous is "Tonight," where the story's star-crossed lovers profess their love for one another high above the city. Sure, Maria never tears off her Versace silk, but you seemingly cannot film a scene on a fire escape without recalling this classic, and, in "Edge," there's certainly a lot of the former.

Britney Spears' Tour 'A Real Buzz' For Openers Nervo

'The nerves are gone now, and I just want to own it more,' Nervo's Liv tells MTV News.

The Femme Fatale Tour kicked off Thursday night to rave reviews, with critics giving Britney Spears props for her over-the-top stage show. The show is all about the ladies, thanks to opening slots from Nervo, Jessie and the Boy Toys, as well as Nicki Minaj, with Spears acting as the show's head mistress.

MTV News caught up with Liv from the DJ act Nervo on Friday (June 17), nearly 24 hours after their first warm-up gig for Ms. Spears.

"I've got to say, it was a real buzz for us to open the show; that's the selfish highlight," she told MTV News. "We were honored to be there. I thought the crowd got our house music."

Liv had the pleasure of finally seeing Spears in concert for the first time and couldn't help but rave about her. "I thought she was brilliant. It was my first time seeing Nicki, as well, and she was brilliant," she said. "I love 'Slave 4 U.' I was really happy she was playing her oldies."

When fans first heard that Spears and Minaj would be touring together, no one knew how the two would mesh. But, as it turns out, Liv said they work just perfectly. "They're both very strong women. Britney was the same old Britney we love," she said. "They complemented each other."

In fact, there's a real sense of camaraderie on the road. "The nerves are gone now, and I just want to own it more," she said. "It really does [feel like girl power]. It's very exciting. We're all girls. This business is crazy, and it's fun we can all be in it together.

"It really is a machine. We've done RV tours before with club DJs, and this is so far and beyond from the RV tours," she said. "The catering is insane; three-course meals, three times a day. I've never seen what it takes to be a part of one of these pop shows, and it takes so much work. It's full on. It's great. It's amazing that she can take it all in stride all these years later."
