For many pop fans the name of Tony Sly may be unfamiliar. However, for those who remain stalwarts of pop punk, he was a pioneer and one of the top songwriters in the genre. A founding member of the band No Use For a Name, he passed away yesterday at the age of 41. Yesterday at Warped Tour in Milwaukee, Yellowcard played a tribute to No Use For a Name by playing the band's song "Chasing Rainbows." No Use For a Name were a part of the very first Warped Tour in 1995 and then played on the tour three more times. Tony Sly's own work mellowed from hardcore punk to softer, more melodic music with age. No details are available on the cause of death, but pioneer Tony Sly will be missed.
