Taylor Swift's Speak Now Has Lowest Recorded Chart Topping Album Sales Ever

In late October when Taylor Swift's album Speak Now rolled into stores it did so with the biggest first week of sales of any album in the last five years selling more than 1,000,000. Now, 2 1/2 months later it remains at the top of the chart but with sales of 52,000, the lowest chart-topping sales figure yet recorded by SoundScan. The previous low took place in early 2007 when the Dreamgirls soundtrack was at the top selling just over 60,000 copies. This is Taylor Swift's sixth week in total at the top for Speak Now, and it looks like she may rack up more weeks at #1 with even smaller sales figures since there is no strong competition on the horizon in the next few weeks. Fortunately overall album sales only dipped 8% this week compared with the same week last year, and single sales are up 8%.
