'Chronicle' Rooted In 'Complete Reality,' Stars Say

'It's a movie about what would actually happen if teenagers got superpowers,' Dane DeHaan tells MTV News.

In the buzzworthy action/drama hybrid "Chronicle," out Friday, three friends' lives are forever changed when they encounter an otherworldly substance and structure that somehow gives them extraordinary abilities.

The movie is shot mostly via the "found footage" or "POV" format and revolves around high school students Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan). When MTV News caught up with the three stars of the film recently, we asked them to explain how "Chronicle" is different from every other superpower and found-footage film out there.

"It's a movie about what would actually happen if teenagers got superpowers," DeHaan said. "And I think that, for the first time, it deals with that issue in modern day in complete reality, which is the person who gets the superpowers probably won't be the best person in the world and only want to save other people in the world from their problems."

"From the beginning, you're invested in Andrew and Steve and Matt," Jordan added. "It's not just, 'What monster is going to be popping out of this building?' You really follow the characters throughout the movie and care what happens to them."

Because the audience spends so much time getting to know the three main characters, Russell said it makes for an especially intense thrill ride when the boys discover just how powerful they are and things start to spiral out of control.

"It's action-packed, it's incredible in that way, but it in no way relies on that," Russell said of the film's impressive effects and aerial stunt work. "The characters are very layered, the relationships are complex and beautiful, and something you get really invested in it, and I think that makes it hit home so much harder when things start to go awry."

Check out everything we've got on "Chronicle."

Gojira's Mario Duplantier Interviewed By MetalObsession.net

Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier was interviewed by the Australian website MetalObsession.net, prior to the band arriving in that country to play the Soundwave Festival in late February and March. He spoke about the group's still-untitled fifth studio album (and first Roadrunner release) and much more.

Says Mario, "With the new album we wanted something more organic, more…like, when we play live there is something very simple and sometimes we lose that in the studio. It’s a rule you know, a lot of bands have found this, in the studio maybe sometimes it’s too clean, too perfect. On this album we wanted a direction more like a live performance, something true where you can show the band, where you can feel the band live and we have tried to preserve some of that on the new album."

He describes the record as being "about freedom…to be precise [Joe Duplantier, guitarist and singer] told me that every person has a ‘wild child’ inside, somewhere, somehow, and we try in our life and in our band to keep this different life in our music. So this album is about our state of mind and our lifestyle, it’s like our quest for honesty and human freedom, freedom of the mind and the heart, and how we don’t want to fade away as we grow up, we don’t want to disappear."

One Direction To Appear On 'iCarly'

MTV News exclusive: The British boy band will play themselves on an episode of Miranda Cosgrove's hit Nick show.

"iCarly" is about to feel the effects of a British Invasion. The show has just booked British boy band One Direction to appear on the fifth season of the Miranda Cosgrove-starring show.

The guys will be on set Monday to tape their appearance on the episode, during which they will play themselves and perform "What Makes You Beautiful."

According to a synopsis of the episode, "Carly returns home sick after a trip and discovers that One Direction has accepted an invitation to perform on their web show. Not long after arriving, bandmate Harry becomes sick and we see Carly doting over him. Realizing Harry is playing sick for the attention, they hatch a plan to get him back in the group by telling him Gibby has become their newest bandmember. Meanwhile, Spencer becomes a personal trainer and gives a bratty girl a makeover."

The guys of One Direction, who got their start after appearing on "The X Factor" in 2010, are already superstars in their native U.K., and now it seems they are poised to break Stateside. Their debut album, Up All Night, is set for U.S. release on March 20, and they will be touring with Big Time Rush starting next month.

Cosgrove stopped by the MTV News offices recently and teased that there were some big plans in store for season five. "We're just getting started to start the next season, so I'm not really sure what's going to come, because it's sort of a surprise for all of us even," she said. "But I've heard Carly's getting a boyfriend, so that's exciting, and we're gonna have some more musical guests, some big, different musical artists," she said, noting that she'd love to get Katy Perry on the show. "There are a lot of different musical acts that I love, so it's fun whenever we get to have music in an episode."

Michelle Obama made an "iCarly" appearance earlier this month on a special episode that honored military families.

Madonna Calls M.D.N.A. 'Action-Packed'

Queen of Pop tells MTV News most of her upcoming album is more 'high-energy' than award-winning 'Masterpiece.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Madonna

Madonna has teased fans not only inadvertently with a leaked demo of her first single for "Gimme All Your Luvin," but also with "Masterpiece" (which also appears on the soundtrack for her film, "W.E."). So far it seems that the two very different tracks show the two very different sides that the Queen of Pop is pursuing on her next studio release, M.D.N.A.

While "Gimme" plays up Madge's playful, upbeat persona, "Masterpiece," as she explained to MTV News, is a different story. " 'Masterpiece' is one of the few kind of more down-tempo songs, more reflective," she told MTV News at the New York City premiere of "W.E."

"I think the majority of the record is more action-packed," she teased. "More high-energy." It seems, then, that what fans have heard of "Gimme" is more of what they will hear on the album.

The album will reportedly get a March release date. It features production from Martin Solveig on its lead single, which gets some presumably sassy assists from two fierce female MCs, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Both ladies will reportedly take the stage with the pop icon to perform the track at the Super Bowl halftime show.

Madonna also worked with longtime collaborator and Ray Of Light producer William Orbit, who produced the Golden Globe-winning "Masterpiece." "We've worked on stuff for so many years that we kind of finish each other's sentences. He knows my taste and what I like," she explained at the premiere. "Magic happens when we get into a recording studio together."

At the Globes, Madonna recalled how "Masterpiece" came together. "[My manager Guy Oseary] harangued me for the entire time I was filming and editing my movie to write a song," she said during her acceptance speech for Best Original Song. "And I said, 'Please, Guy, I'm trying to focus on being a director and I want people to pay attention to the film and I don't have time.' So then I finished the film and I started making my record and somehow magically and miraculously the song emerged, 'Masterpiece,' so thank you, Guy Oseary, for being so irritating."

What are you looking forward to on Madonna's next album? Let us know in the comments!

Sundance 2012: Our Favorite Interviews

Drake and Spike Lee among MTV News' favorite sit-downs at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
By Josh Wigler, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz and Sam Hendrick

The Sundance Film Festival is still raging on in Park City, Utah, but the MTV Movies team is back home safe and sound after a weeklong journey filled with movie screenings and high-profile interviews. If you're interested in hearing about the films that caught the most buzz at Sundance this year, never fear: We've got you covered.

But there's more to enjoy at Sundance than just the movies themselves; there are also interviews with countless actors, filmmakers, musicians and other stars for you to chew on. From the absurdly hilarious to the cool and informative, here are our favorite interviews conducted by MTV News at Sundance this year:

Check out photos of everyone from Paris Hilton to Taylor Swift on the ground at Sundance.

5. AnnaLynne McCord
It was the nip slip heard 'round the cyber-world. Weeks ago, "90210" actress AnnaLynne McCord inadvertently posted a photo of herself on Twitter that revealed more than she bargained for. But lest you think she's embarrassed about the overexposure, think again. "The moral of the story is not to stop taking pictures of yourself naked," she told MTV News. "We all like being naked. Just make sure that the little bit of your areola isn't in the picture before you send it to a hundred billion people."

Don't miss all our Sundance Film Festival coverage.

4. Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones
The stars of "Celeste and Jesse Forever" tackle uncomfortable but often funny subject matter in their Sundance indie. In real life, the situation isn't so different. Samberg and Jones are both hilarious in their regular "SNL" and "Parks & Rec" gigs, and in person, the laughs are there as well — even when it comes to a topic as uncomfortable as Lana Del Ray's "SNL" collapse. "People gave her a lot of crap. I saw it online. BriWi," he said when we asked about the incident; BriWi, of course, refers to "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams' critique of the performance. Try watching the veteran newsman without thinking of him as "BriWi" again. It's just not possible.

Watch: Aaron Paul tells us at Sundance that he knows how "Breaking Bad" will end.

3. Spike Lee
The New York filmmaker brought Brooklyn to Park City with his new film "Red Hook Summer," a spiritually charged drama that takes a dark and unexpected turn before the credits roll. The movie hasn't been kindly received by all critics, but regardless of reception, Lee's thought process behind the film was a revelation to hear. "We wanted to make a film about young black kids like 'Stand by Me,' " he said. "I love that film. Where's the people-of-color version of that film? I'm not saying this is it, but that's the type of film. ... I want to see that. [Writer] James [McBride] and I wanted to see this film in a theater. We wanted the world to see these characters in this isolated part of Brooklyn, Red Hook."

Drake took Sundance by storm with a club performance during the film festival, and MTV News was there!

2. Drake
Battling tigers is not always easy. But when you're Drake, it's always awesome. The Toronto MC performed at Sundance and spoke with MTV News ahead of the gig, recounting his recent trip to Africa, during which he did battle with a true-blue tiger. We kid you not. "I went on a safari. I got tackled by a tiger. It was crazy," Drake recounted for MTV's Sam Hendrick, who mustered the only response humanly possible to such wild and crazy news: "That's dope!" Co-signed, Sam.

1. Paul Giamatti
MTV Movie Brawl 2012 came to a close during our time at Sundance. With hours to go before the polls closed, David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" clinched the win with an absolutely insurmountable lead. One of the film's many stars, Paul Giamatti, was on the ground in Park City and was happy to accept the top honor on the "Cosmopolis" cast's behalf. "Holy cow, that's astounding!" he said upon hearing the news. "The fact of that is amazing. ... That's a really cool thing that it brings that visibility to that movie."

Bonus: Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim
Perhaps the greatest of all the interviews we enjoyed at Sundance is one we have yet to unveil: our conversation with the absurd duo behind "Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie." We cannot verify the film's actual budget, but our interview with Mr. Heidecker and Mr. Wareheim is worth at least a billion bucks. You'll see it soon, but for now, some out-of-context teasers: Will Forte. "Filet of fish, no bun." "Back to you." If it doesn't make sense yet, just wait — it'll be even less clear when the insanity-fueled interview hits the Web. Stay tuned ...

Stick with the MTV Movies team as we roll out more coverage from the Sundance Film Festival!

Vanessa Hudgens, Shailene Woodley, More Reveal Red Carpet Don'ts

'Absolutely do not be drunk or high on anything,' Dame Helen Mirren advises MTV News in latest edition of Don't Do That.
By Christina Garibaldi

With awards season is in full swing — Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday, the Screen Actors Guild Awards are set for Sunday — the stars have been stepping up their fashion game in hopes of taking home one of the most important honors: Best Dressed.

But a lot of work goes into making that coveted list. MTV News asked some of the biggest actresses in the business for advice on what not to do on a red carpet.

"Don't wear something that's uncomfortable," said "Descendents" star Shailene Woodley when asked about how to leave a lasting impression. "Wear something that's super comfortable."

Hudgens had some unusual advice for what not to do on the red carpet. "A cartwheel ... in a dress," she said.

Comfort may not have been at the top of the list for Reese Witherspoon and Charlize Theron, who wowed at the 2012 Golden Globes, but they were certainly dazzling. Similarly, young starlets like Demi Lovato and Vanessa Hudgens made daring fashion choices at the People's Choice Awards and came out winners.

"The Help" star Jessica Chastain — who just got her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress — seemed to agree with Woodley.

"You should never wear something that makes you uncomfortable because then you look uncomfortable," Chastain said. "We've all done that, right? We've all been talked into something we didn't love, by our grandmothers, our aunts, my great aunt."

Chastain's fellow Oscar nominee and "Help" co-star, Viola Davis, has a busy red-carpet season ahead of her, but don't expect her to strike a pose. "My big thing, I never do over-the-shoulder shots," Davis told us. "I just don't. I think they're cheesy.

"I think absolutely you should be who you are, it has a huge calming effect as opposed to adding anxiety to yourself and trying to channel another persona; it really doesn't work," the Best Actress nominee continued. "Can you imagine the over-the-shoulder, hair-flip kinda pose for myself?"

Of course, it's not just about the dress or the most flattering pose — viewers keep an eye on carpet etiquette, too. According to Dame Helen Mirren, a star should always be on their best behavior.

"Don't be drunk, absolutely do not be drunk or high on anything," Mirren said. "Don't be nervous and do enjoy it. Think [to yourself], 'This is crazy, this is ridiculous, it's absurd, it has absolutely no place in the modern world. I'm just gonna love it.' "

Share your favorite red-carpet looks of the season so far in the comments!

Stay with MTV Style during awards-show season, and every day!

Demi Moore Hospitalization Caps Rough Patch For Actress

Moore's separation from Ashton Kutcher, thin appearance had fans concerned even before Tuesday health scare.
By Jocelyn Vena

Demi Moore
Photo: FilmMagic

Demi Moore made headlines on Tuesday when she was hospitalized for "exhaustion." The news of the health scare may not have been too surprising to celebrity watchers who have been closely keeping an eye on the actress in the wake of her split from Ashton Kutcher.

In 2011, Moore's personal life became heavily scrutinized when "Two and a Half Men" star Kutcher faced allegations that he was cheating on Moore. The actress has been lying low of late — she appeared in several smaller films in the past year, including "Margin Call" and "Another Happy Day."

Last fall, shortly before she announced her split from Kutcher, Moore had many fans worried about her health after she appeared thinner than usual at several red-carpet appearances to promote "Margin Call." But she kept up a brave face in the wake of all the rumors regarding her appearance and her marriage.

Check out photos of Demi and Ashton from happier times.

It all came to a head in November when Moore and Kutcher confirmed that they were separating. In a statement, Moore said, "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton.

"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," the statement continued. "This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."

In the months since the announcement, Moore has kept a low profile, but in early January she was cast as feminist icon Gloria Steinem in the "Lovelace" biopic currently shooting in Los Angeles.

Since her hospitalization, Moore has dropped out of "Lovelace." Her next film release is "LOL," starring Miley Cyrus and Ashley Greene, due out later this year. "I really loved the movie; I loved working with [Cyrus] and the director. They just put it on pause because they had another film they were focusing on. It's a tough thing when you have a movie you're looking forward to coming out," she said of the flick.

When you think Motown Records, you think of artists like Diana Ross, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, just to name a few. Now Ne-Yo joins the legendary list of soul and R&B singers that will record under the iconic brand created by Berry Gordy in 1959.

The Grammy Award-winning singer (and co-star of the George Lucas-produced "Red Tails") has moved from Def Jam to Motown Records, according to a statement sent to MTV News on Wednesday (January 25). Not only that, Ne-Yo will also take over as the label's senior vice president of A&R.

"I'm honored that I¹ve been given such a prestigious title and trusted with such responsibility; terrified because I know that playing this role in the fashion of one of my career role models, Mr. Smokey Robinson — these are big shoes to fill. But trust, I can handle it," the singer said in the statement.

Ne-Yo released his debut In My Own Words on Def Jam in 2006 and dropped three subsequent albums with the powerhouse hip-hop label. The singer/songwriter's fifth LP will now come through Motown, which, like Def Jam, falls under the Universal umbrella. In addition to his artistry and ear for talent as an A&R, Ne-Yo will also bring his Compound Entertainment imprint over to Motown.

"His track record of success at Def Jam will always be a benchmark," said Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown chairman/CEO Barry Weiss in the same statement. "But this move to Motown will provide new and inspiring challenges for Ne-Yo as both an artist and a key member of the new senior management team that is taking form at the label in 2012."

Senior Vice President of Motown Ethiopia Habtemariam added that signing Ne-Yo, who has written for Rihanna ("Take A Bow"), Beyoncé ("Irreplaceable") and Mario ("Let Me Love You"), will only bolster Motown's historical reputation for making great R&B.

"We are committed to discovering, developing and nurturing R&B/soul superstars here at Motown," she said. "In Ne-Yo we have both a global superstar and arguably one of the best songwriters in music. His presence on the executive team only strengthens our commitment to be the very best in R&B."

What do you think of Ne-Yo's move over to Motown? Tell us in the comments!

Oscar's Best Song Category: Why Only Two Nominees?

Complicated voting rules shut out songs by Elton John, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige and Pink.
By John Mitchell

Blu and Linda in "Rio"

Tuesday morning's (January 24) announcement of the 2012 Oscar nominations delivered plenty of surprises. Michael Fassbender ("Shame"), Albert Brooks ("Drive") and Charlize Theron ("Young Adult") were overlooked in the acting categories, while Melissa McCarthy ("Bridesmaids"), Rooney Mara ("The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") and Max von Sydow ("Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close") scored surprise nominations. But perhaps no category was more head-scratching than Best Original Song.

Despite the fact that a short list of 39 tracks were eligible for nomination, only two were named — "Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets" and "Real in Rio" from "Rio" — leaving tunes from Elton John and Lady Gaga, Pink, will.i.am, Zooey Deschanel, Elvis Costello and Mary J. Blige shut out of the competition.

Many Oscar-watchers were left wondering why the Academy would opt away from the traditional five contenders in favor of just two little-heard songs. Well, a closer look at the Oscar rule book shows it's probably less a case of choosing to nominate only two songs than it is simply a case of a single song scoring enough points to secure a nod, and then bringing its closest competition along for the ride.

Oscar nominations are arrived at using a very complicated weighted system in which members of the Academy, voting exclusively for members of their own branch (i.e. actors chose the acting nominees, directors vote for directors, etc.), rank contenders in order of preference. From there, a "magic number" is determined that relies on the number of ballots cast for a category, along with a specific mathematical equation. Ballots are tallied and contenders are eliminated through several rounds in a process that tabulates factors like first-place mentions and so on. Once a contender reaches the magic number, they are an Oscar nominee. (The folks over at EW's PopWatch break down the selection steps in great detail.)

So this is how the nominees are determined — with one exception: Best Original Song. In 2009, when the Academy opted to up the number of Best Picture nominees to 10 (the voting body has since altered that number), it also changed the rules for Best Original Song. As Billboard points out, members of the Academy's music branch now "assign each song a numerical score between 1 and 10, and if no song receives an average of more than 8.25, there are no nominees. If only one song tops the threshold, as clearly happened here, the next highest vote getter secures a nomination as well."

This year's Best Original Song category boils down to this: either Bret McKenzie's "Man or Muppet" or "Real in Rio" by songwriting trio Sergio Mendes, Carlinhos Brown and Siedah Garrett secured a score of 8.25 or better, earning a nomination and pulling the #2 vote-getter into the fray. Simply put, members of the music branch didn't award any other song, including John and Gaga's duet "Hello Hello" or Blige's "The Help" track "Living Proof," a score high enough to secure a nomination.

But lest you think that this means the category is all but locked, think again. While selecting the Oscar nominees is an intensely mathematical process, picking the winners is much easier. Once the nominations are decided, every member of the Academy can vote in each category and the nominee that receives the most votes wins. Easy enough. And since actors are the largest voting block of the Academy— and would have had nothing to do with the tracks selected to contend for Best Original Song — it's anyone's game.

Selena Gomez Locks In Next Film Project

'Wizards of Waverly Place' star is attached to produce 'The Sky is Everywhere.'

As Selena Gomez maps out her post-"Wizards of Waverly Place" career, her projects continue to be more and more diverse.

Gomez is attached to produce and most likely star in the big-screen adaptation of the Jandy Nelson novel "The Sky is Everywhere." Gomez will not only play the part of producer but could potentially land the novel's lead role of Lennie Walker, Deadline reports.

Lennie is a 17-year-old nerd-type who loses her older, outgoing sister, Bailey. After Bailey dies, Lennie must step out of her sister's shadow when she falls for two guys (one of whom was Bailey's boyfriend). No word on who is attached to star in the other key parts of the movie. Before she hits the set for "The Sky is Everywhere," Gomez already has some other films lined up. The actress/singer will shoot the darker "Spring Breakers" early this year and has been rumored to be attached to a film called "Hot Mess."

When Gomez spoke to MTV News late last year, she shared that she didn't have any big expectations going into 2012. It seems that game plan is working for her. "I feel like this approach of this year, I wasn't expecting any of the things that happened," she said. "And so I just kind of want to go into the end of this year and the beginning of next year just excited and in a good place and not planning anything."

Miranda Cosgrove Drops Second 'iCarly' Soundtrack

iCarly: iSoundtrack II features original songs from Nickelodeon cast and hits by Katy Perry, Ke$ha.

Miranda Cosgrove is currently in between seasons of her hit Nickelodeon series, "iCarly," but that doesn't mean that fans can't dance their butts off to some of the show's choice tunes. On Tuesday (January 24), the teen star dropped iCarly: iSoundtrack II, and it's certainly filled with just enough Carly musical goodness to keep everyone at bay until the next season of the show kicks off.

Featuring original tunes from Cosgrove and her "iCarly" castmates, the album also includes hits like Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" and Ke$ha's "Blow." For her part, Cosgrove recorded her songs during her 2011 Dancing Crazy Tour, making the experience that much more frenzied in the best way possible.

"It was kind of crazy and chaotic, because I'd have a day off and I'd be in Boston or I'd be in New York and I'd go in the studio and work on these songs," Cosgrove told MTV News.

Cosgrove recently dropped the track "Million Dollars" off the record and elaborated a bit about why she wanted to record that song.

"It's kind of about like I was in a relationship and the person meant everything to me and then — I don't know — it's that feeling that you have when you break up with someone and you're kind of questioning everything," she said. "And you don't really know what went wrong and you really cared about the person. So I mean I just try to do songs that are different experiences I've been through and stuff that I think people that watch my show can relate to."

While she is looking forward to releasing this new batch of music, she certainly isn't ruling out hitting the studio to work on some of her own tunes. "I really want to. I love music and I love going on tour," she said. "I think touring is one of my favorite things because I get to meet all the people that watch the show and are into the music. It's totally different than being on a little sound stage."

AnnaLynne McCord Laughs Off Topless Twitpic Faux Pas

'I am going to tweet myself naked all the time,' the '90210' actress jokes to MTV News at Sundance.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Much like a plot right out of her soapy CW show, "90210," AnnaLynne McCord made headlines when she inadvertently tweeted out a NSFW photo of herself on January 10. It quickly became clear that she took the photo at the wrong angle, exposing a bit more of herself than she had expected to.

After realizing her Twitter faux pas, she laughed off the incident. "This is for you, @meganraee You Rock! Xxx," she initially tweeted, including the nipple-baring photo. She later added, "Hahaha! Megan, you feel like sharing? Very funny I actually LOL-ed xxxA."

When MTV News had the chance to speak to McCord during her trip to the Sundance Film Festival, she had a very amusing response to the tweet. "I am going to tweet myself naked all the time. I mean I am going to be a press whore from here on out. This is awesome," she joked about the headline-making incident. "You know what's so crazy to me, it's the sensationalism. I mean so disappointing, I'm sorry for everybody who thought I was going to be naked. You see more of me naked as Pauline in ['Excision'].

"Anyone with half of a brain knows it was an accident," she continued. "I have a very small areola and I have to get a magnifying glass to make sure that it's not in pictures in the future. That's the moral of the story."

McCord had a few more laughs at her own expense, adding, "The moral of the story is not to stop taking pictures of yourself naked. We all like being naked. Just make sure that the little bit of your areola isn't in the picture before you send it to a hundred billion people."

How did AnnaLynne McCord handle her Twitter photo faux pas? Leave your comments below!

'Hobbit' Brings 'Impending Doom' To Middle-Earth, Elijah Wood Says

'There is gravity, but there's a lot of fun as well,' actor tells MTV News of Peter Jackson's latest Tolkien adaptation.
By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

PARK CITY, Utah — Despite all odds, Frodo Baggins is back in the Shire ... or was back, rather.

Elijah Wood reprises his iconic role as the ring-bearing Frodo in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," serving as a book-ending character in scenes that bridge the gap between director Peter Jackson's latest trip to Middle-earth and his previous one in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Wood's role is a less prominent one in "The Hobbit," so much so that with 100 days left of filming, his work on the film is finished.

"I had my revisitation rights, and now they've been revoked," he joked when MTV News caught up with him at the Sundance Film Festival.

Though Wood's return to the realm of dwarves, elves and men has reached its conclusion, the actor spent enough time on the New Zealand set to get a real sense of what "The Hobbit" is going for. Specifically, he spoke to the fact that Jackson's latest adaptation stays true to the lighter tone of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, largely because "the stakes aren't as high" as they were in "Lord of the Rings." "It's more whimsical, magical, and a little bit more comedic," Wood said. "The dwarves are funny and they're kind of bumbling, and they're really playing a lot of that aspect up."

But even if the situation in "The Hobbit" isn't as dangerous as the world-ending scenario posed in "Rings," Wood said Jackson has managed to weave a sense of "impending doom ... into the construct of the piece."

"There is gravity," he insisted, "but there's a lot of fun as well." For his own part, Wood is just grateful that he got a chance to step back into Frodo's furry feet one last time, an experience he likened to time travel.

"It felt like stepping back into time," he said of reprising Frodo. "We shot some stuff in Hobbiton, and the last time I was in Hobbiton, I was 19 ... and I'm 30 now. It was a very bizarre step through a portal into time. But it was beautiful. It was great to be a part of it."

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Keep it locked with MTV Movies for everything there is to know about Sundance.

Corey Taylor Interviewed On Loudwire.com

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was recently interviewed on Loudwire.com, and he had a lot to say about the future of both bands, as well as other things.

Taylor has described plans to make Stone Sour's next studio release a "double concept album," and he went into some detail about themes when talking to Loudwire, saying, "It really is a mid-life crisis sort of thing. When you hit your mid-to-late 30s you can keep walking forward and embrace a new stage of your life and really become the man you are going to be or you can stand and stagnate and cling to the almost romantic angst of youth and really stop evolving at this point. It’s really kind of a problem a lot of men have. Actually a lot of women these days are having it too...The songs will, of course, be more ambiguous so everyone can relate to them."

Regarding Slipknot, he says, "I think [2012] will just be more of a strengthening year for us. [The 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray is] still very fresh for us, even though it’s been a year and a half since his death. It is still something that breaks me down every night. I just know if we try to rush in and make an album that doesn’t feel right, the audience will know. The audience will know that it doesn’t feel right and they’ll know it was forced and they’ll know it isn’t genuine. If anything we have always been as genuine with our audience as possible. That is why I have gone out of my way to say 'Look, I’m not ready to do it.'"

Go read the whole thing!
