Lady Gaga delivered a strong medley of songs from Born This Way and helped Mayor Bloomberg drop the ball to ring in the New Year in New York City. With a bravura performance of "Shake It Out" Florence and the Machine was mesmerizing as ever. However, the performance of the night had to be Pitbull electrifying Times Square with a medley of his breakthrough hit "I Know You Want Me" and 2011's mega-smash "Give Me Everything." Clearly he was owning the night. The end result was the best TV ratings for Dick Clark's annual New Year's Rockin' Eve show since the turn of the millenium in 1999. The show also dominated any other TV competition on New Year's Eve. This year the annual celebration had a primetime lead-in with a countdown of 40 performances from past New Year's Rockin' Eve shows hosted by Fergie. Pop music ruled TV on New Year's Eve 2012.
