'Thor' Star Chris Hemsworth Says There's 'Tension' In 'Avengers'

'You've got big egos on these superheroes,' he tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

All of MTV News' recent interactions with Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. the man about to grace movie screens as the God of Thunder in "Thor," have naturally been very focused on the highly anticipated film and all the nerdy details that come with portraying a comic book superhero.

We love everything "Thor," of course, but since the Norseman will also be appearing in the possibly even more anticipated and mysterious "Avengers" movie, we can't help but pester everyone in the high-profile cast about the film, which just started production.

So when we caught up with Hemsworth recently to expand on our ever-growing database of "Thor" information, we prodded the Aussie for some "Avengers" details. Although he couldn't give us much, he seemed excited that his onscreen brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) will be joining him on set, as well as the potential for a superhero smackdown.

"[It's great] to have my brother there. Even if we don't get along," Hemsworth joked. "[Hiddleston] is fantastic. [He gave] an incredible, incredible performance in the film, and he's going to do the same in this one."

With regard to how all those superheroes will be interacting, particularly Tony Stark, Hemsworth said the environment will be tense.

"There's certainly some tension. You've got big egos on these superheroes," he said. "None of them want to be told what to do or form an alliance with these people who they don't understand anything about," he said. "In the comic books, you see that it's not an easy mix; that's definitely in [the movie]."

When asked if we'll see the ensemble cast (Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Hemsworth and Hiddleston) come to blows, Hemsworth surprised us with an answer in the affirmative.

"Well, you'd want it, wouldn't you? Otherwise, why are we all there? I think it would be safe to say you can expect something like that," he said.

Check out everything we've got on "The Avengers."

'Prom' Stars Suggest 'Elaborate' Ways To Get A Date For The Dance

'I like it where people ask in a way where it's unique to that person you're asking,' Kylie Bunbury tells MTV News.

For those who are in high school, or maybe work at one, the release of Disney's sweet and wholesome "Prom" movie kicks off that heavily hyped season of dress shopping, date anxiety and general excitement that surrounds one of America's most storied traditions.

When MTV News caught up with the film's stars, we asked them to discuss the challenging task of asking someone to prom and what should be done in order to get a prospective date to say "yes."

"An elaborate way," Janelle Ortiz said. "I think it has to be an elaborate way, because you're going to remember prom for the rest of your life."

"It's got to be creative," Joe Adler added. "Throw some effort on it."

"Exactly, you don't want it to be some stupid little flower: Go big or go home," Ortiz said.

"I like it where people ask in a way where it's unique to that person you're asking," Kylie Bunbury explained. "One of my friends, she was a softball player, and the boy wrote 'prom' on softballs and wrapped them around her car or something like that."

"[I like] the way his character asks my character," Yin Chang told us of co-star Jared Kusnitz, who plays Chang's long-term boyfriend in the film. "He got big posters of each letter and had a little speech for each letter."

"At the end of my speech, a spotlight shines down, and I'm holding a question mark," Kusnitz continued. "Very simple. Silence says it all."

"I think just be creative," Danielle Campbell advised, reiterating the thoughts addressed by her co-stars. "Know the girl you're asking. There are a lot of cool ways people ask in the movie. You can definitely steal an idea from there or create your own. We probably raise the standards with the movie," she said. "Be creative, and hopefully she'll say yes."

Check out everything we've got on "Prom."

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band To Release How I Go!

(New York, NY): Roadrunner Records/Loud & Proud is releasing The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band’s new album, How I Go, on August 2nd, 2011.  This is the band’s first studio album since signing with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records last year and follows the release of the GRAMMY nominated album Live! In Chicago.

Recorded in Sausalito, California’s Studio D, and produced by both Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his longtime collaborator and producer Jerry Harrison (Trouble Is, Live On,10 Days Out, Blues From The Backroads, Live! In Chicago), How I Go signals the band’s welcome return to the studio.  With the help of co-writers Mark Selby and Tia Sellers (“Blue on Black”), as well as Zac Maloy and Danny Tate, the new album offers a bounty of new material as well as covers from Albert King, Bessie Smith and The Beatles.

Kenny and his band, which features Noah Hunt, Chris Layton, and Riley Osbourn along with special guest Tommy Shannon, have delivered a refreshing and inspiring take on guitar-driven rock n’ roll.  How I Go offers a blues infused collection of music and more. Shepherd said, “We poured our hearts and souls into the recording of How I Go. My goal was to give longtime fans exactly what they want to hear on one of my records, while providing new fans an opportunity to experience my brand of blues based rock.  I’m certain music lovers will clearly hear our musical roots while experiencing the growth and emotion that this record represents.”  The band is currently planning a US tour to begin in July.

Since releasing his first record at the age of 17, Kenny has enjoyed two Platinum and one Gold album, six Top 10 singles, and his album Trouble Is holds the distinction of being the longest running album on the Billboard Blues Charts, hitting the two year mark.  Kenny’s five albums have spent a combined 93 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart, tying with luminary B.B. King for most weeks ever atop the chart2010’s Live! In Chicago was Kenny’s 5th straight #1 blues album, an achievement matched solely by fellow guitar man Eric Clapton.

Over the course of his career, Kenny has amassed five GRAMMY nominations, two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville H. Gibson Awards, the Blues Foundation’s “Keeping the Blues Alive” award and a Blues Music Award.  In 2008, Fender released the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Signature Series Stratocaster.  2007’s CD/DVD 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards, aired on PBS television nationwide and has been certified RIAA Gold as a Long Form Video.

Christina Perri Was Always Late For Class, On 'When I Was 17'

'I almost didn't graduate because I was late so many days,' the 'Jar of Hearts' singer admits on latest episode.
By James Dinh

Time is of the essence, and if there's one music superstar who learned that life lesson at a young age, it's Christina Perri. On this week's episode of MTV's "When I Was 17," the singer/songwriter recalls being late all the time for high school, which almost cost the future rock star her diploma.

"I remember when I was 17, I almost didn't graduate because I was late so many days," the "Jar of Hearts" singer recalls. "I had this 1981 baby-blue Monte Carlo ... but it was so old and awful and broke down all the time."

Perri's brother Nick admits that his sibling was a fan of the superstar lifestyle early on in her teenage years, saying, "She was all about rock and roll and she wanted a muscle car."

However, even behind the wheel of her dream car, Perri couldn't deny the less-than-stellar condition of the ride, which led to a number of tardy school days and eventually a little bit of trouble. "My mom wrote me a note one time for the little attendance nun that said, 'Pardon my daughter's lateness. It's her car, it didn't start this morning,' " she recalls.

With her mother's note in hand, the Pennsylvania native took advantage and made 70 photocopies for future use. "I gave it to the attendance nun, like, every day. She's like, 'Can you please get another car?' "

By the end of high school, Perri's attendance record had finally caught up with her. "In my senior year, I was late a day too many and then my mom found out about all the notes and she said, 'What do you mean you were late 70 days? I didn't write you 70 notes.' "

In the end, Perri escaped the consequences, but it was an extremely close call. "The little attendance nun just kind of erased that last day that I had because I had won her over and they let me graduate, but it was close," she says.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring ?uestlove, Christina Perri and Vanessa Simmons — airs on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.

'American Idol' Report Card: James Durbin Is King!

The rocker surprises us with his soft side on Carole King night, while Jacob Lusk fails to make the grade.
By Eric Ditzian

James Durbin performs on "American Idol" on Wednesday
Photo: Michael Becker/ Fox

This far into the "American Idol" season, it's nice to know we can still be surprised. Look at that — James Durbin, sans flaming piano, marching band or guitar god, crooning like a vulnerable pop-rock star. And wow, Randy Jackson is arguing that we hadn't actually heard Jacob Lusk sing up until now, but now he's sung, and that's a good thing because "we like to hear you sing!" And watch Miley Cyrus pop into the frame long enough to dis Jimmy Iovine, who for once just sits there and (unhappily) takes it.

Oh, did we mention the night's theme was the songbook of Carole King? There were surprises aplenty on Wednesday's show, but one thing is for certain: At the end of the night, everyone's got to stand up and be judged. That's where our "Idol" report card comes into play. (And tune in to this week's "Idol Party Live" right here for even more judgment!

Excellent

James Durbin: Is it really happening? Is James winning us over? Truth is, his take on "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" was easily his best performance since "Maybe I'm Amazed" in early March. As we've said again and again, broken record-like, James is at his best when he slips into sensitive rocker mode rather than when, for example, he tries to butt metalheads with big boys like Zakk Wylde. The arrangement was stellar, slowly building but never fully exploding. Kudos to James for keeping his urge to wail under control. Kudos to James, period. We don't think unseated Scotty McCreery as the one to beat, but at least he's part of the conversation.

Good

Scotty McCreery: In the night's most predictable turn, the judges welcomed Scotty back into the ranks of "Idol" contenders, as if he ever left. But even a highly rated reality shows need some artificial drama every so often, and so it was Scotty's lot this week to become some phoenix rising from the ashes of nearly dashed "Idol" dreams. He brought more emotion into his cover of "You've Got a Friend" than perhaps any other this season. Was this tune demonstrably better than his previous ones? Perhaps by a little, but that just goes to show how consistently strong Scotty's been. While Randy howled that the country kid is in it to win it, we have to say he's been on a winning track for a long, long time.

Haley Reinhart: We've lamented it before and we'll lament it again: Why did it take this long for Haley to find her bluesy form? If the 20-year-old had come out like this from the get-go, she'd have been able to build up a fanbase. Now, however, lines have been drawn, sides have been taken, and Haley finds herself a consistent member of the bottom three. That just ain't right! Her take on "Beautiful" offered a soft and sweet center sandwiched between some fierce, growly goodness. Like her take on Adele last week, the song had some verve, yet left her vocals room to explore. Still, we'd don't see how she avoids another trip to the bottom-three.

Satisfactory

Lauren Alaina: And so the ongoing saga of Lauren and Miley beats on, as "Idol" producers went so far as to haul the Disney princess into the studio in a transparent, and ultimately unsuccessful, attempt at damage control stemming from Jimmy's insult a few weeks ago. Who needs these distractions? Lauren has had trouble enough building up her confidence. Up on stage during "Where You Lead," her sass was, if not back, then at least present. Her little jig with a boy in the audience was nothing compared to her Steven Tyler lap dance back in Hollywood. The problem for Lauren was that her voice just seemed tired, perhaps from stretching to hit those high notes in rehearsals. Her vocals came off as shouty. Her post-performance composure, or lack thereof, made us sad. She hasn't found a way to insulate herself from the craziness of reality-show life.

Casey Abrams: The Casey we know, and sometimes love — a blues brother with attitude aplenty, rather than some educational jazz cat — was back on Wednesday with "Hi-De-Ho," though this particular performance didn't leave us feeling very devoted to the guy. He growled like Haley, he shouted like Lauren, and the result was a mess. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens to Casey on elimination night. Has he re-solidified his fanbase? Can he avoid the bottom three now that there are only six contestants left? We doubt he's going home, so what happens on Thursday will give us a big clue as to Casey fate's going forward.

Unsatisfactory

Jacob Lusk: Since when is it Jimmy's job to carry out the judges' (misguided) wishes? For some reason, Jimmy decided he needed to help Jacob soar and riff to his heart's content. It didn't work out so well. (As if we couldn't have predicted that, based on the way Jacob collapsed in rehearsals and moaned, "Whoa that ain't it!") Exactly. What else is there to say? The rendition was cheesy, the vocals were all over the place, the neck snaps were right out of the Diva 101 playbook. This just might be the end of the road for Jacob.

'Glee' Covers 'Born This Way': The Story Behind The Song

McKinley High singers took on Lady Gaga's instant hit on this week's 90-minute episode.
By Aly Semigran

Lady Gaga's smash "Born This Way" is a song that seemed almost tailor-made for "Glee." The track's inspirational lyrics, aimed in particular at the LGBT community, echo the very sentiment creator Ryan Murphy tries to convey each week on the popular series.

So it was of no surprise that Tuesday night's super-size 90-minute episode of "Glee," about self-love and acceptance — which happened to be titled "Born This Way" — featured Gaga's anthem about those very subjects. (The chorus urges, "Don't hide yourself in regret/ Just love yourself and you're set/ I'm on the right track, baby/ I was born this way.")

Gaga is no stranger to getting "Glee" love, as the one-of-a-kind pop star was the subject of season one's "Theatricality." But before castmembers Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and Naya Rivera gave "BTW" a "Glee" twist, the song already made its mark on 2011's musical landscape. Released on February 11, two days earlier than its planned release, "Born This Way" was the first single off of Lady Gaga's upcoming album of the same name.

The club-ready tune, which was penned by Gaga, Paul Blair, Jeppe Larson and Fernando Garibay, became an instant hit. It not only debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the 1,000th song to do so, but it also marked Gaga's seventh top 10 song in a row.

But that's not to say all of these impressive feats didn't come without some criticism. While the song garnered mostly positive reviews, at first listen many critics and experts said the song sounded similar to some other classic pop ditties, most notably Madonna's "Express Yourself."

For instance, John Polly of the Logo network told MTV News back in February, "She seems to borrow pretty heavily, clearly visually, and sonically, from Madonna. Which is probably super smart, I mean, why wouldn't you?"

But that didn't stop Gaga (she argued to NME magazine that the only real similarity between her song and Madge's classic was the chord progression) and her Little Monsters from turning "BTW" into an anthem. As her friend/ celebrity blogger Perez Hilton told MTV News, "It is a very gay song — unapologetically gay, in-your-face gay — but it's also a universal song that can relate to everyone."

In addition to all that, "BTW" became the fastest-selling song in the history of iTunes, when it sold more than 1 million copies worldwide in just five days. Sales were no doubt propelled by the singer's various live performances of the song, most memorably her appearance at the 2011 Grammy Awards. It was there that the 25-year-old star arrived in an egg. The superstar has also been sharing the song with concertgoers on her Monster Ball Tour.

"Born This Way" not only made its mark onstage, but onscreen as well, with the premiere of its music video in late February. Keeping in line with her other unconventional vids, the seven-minute-plus clip features everything from outer-space to zombies in tuxedos to unicorns (not to mention a tongue-in-cheek nod to the Madonna controversy in which Gaga sports the star's iconic gap in her front teeth.

And as with anything that becomes part of the pop culture mold, parody is bound to follow. While "Glee" pays tribute, "Weird Al" Yankovic found his own way to pay homage. The 51-year-old singer created a silly spinoff of the song with his take on Gaga's onstage antics called "Perform This Way."

"Perform This Way" caused a bit of a stir, but not because of its jabs at Gaga. There was a bit of a misunderstanding between Gaga and Yankovic after he criticized her manager for denying his request to release his song. But as it turned out, Gaga had never heard the song in the first place.

Yankovic explained on his blog, "Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that's what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own." He later noted she "loves the song." Because that is, after all, the Gaga way.

What did you think of the "Glee" cover of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way"?

Phoebe Snow, Singer Of "Poetry Man," Dies At Age 58

Singer-songwriter Phoebe Snow, best known for the 1975 top 5 pop hit single "Poetry Man," has passed away at age 58 due to complications of a cerebral hemmorhage. She had one of the most celebrated debuts of the 1970s. Her self-titled debut album reached #4 on the pop album chart, spawned the hit single "Poetry Man," and it ultimately earned Phoebe Snow a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist. Her success crossed over on to the Jazz and R&B charts. In late 1975 the birth of a severely brain-injured daughter, Valerie, caused Phoebe Snow to shift her primary concentration to child care from her music career. That remained the focus of her life until Valerie's death in 2007.

Jim Jones Didn't Pass On A Plea Deal, Lawyer Says

Rapper plans to pay his outstanding fine and then 'negotiate' with the DA's office, Marianne E. Bertuna tells MTV News.
By Alvin Blanco

Jim Jones is not copping any pleas. The Harlem rapper was arraigned Tuesday (April 26) in a New York County Criminal Courthouse for charges of driving with a suspended license. MTV News spoke to Jones' attorney Marianne E. Bertuna, who refuted reports that her client had passed on a plea deal.

"Everyone refers to it as a plea deal, but ... the District Attorney's office [offered] him what's called a plea to the charge," Bertuna told MTV News. "The charge is a misdemeanor. If they had made him an offer of, let's say, a traffic infraction or a violation, then that would be a plea deal, because that's a lower charge. They said, 'Well, he could plea guilty to the misdemeanor,' but that was just our first appearance."

Tuesday's court visit stems from Jones' arrest March 30 in New York's SoHo neighborhood. Jones was spotted by cops driving a Bentley in a bus lane and was arrested when authorities discovered that the rapper's license had been suspended over an unpaid parking ticket.

Bertuna said Jones was unaware of the outstanding fines that led to the suspension of his driver's license. Jones did not enter a plea and plans to settle any outstanding fees with the New York DMV before his next scheduled court date on June 15.

"He's been made aware that there's an outstanding fine that needs to be paid. It's really not anything excessive, and he'll pay it," Bertuna said. "Hopefully, when he does that, we will be able to negotiate with the DA's office to make him a lower offer, meaning a traffic infraction, which would not be a crime."

Last year, Jones pleaded guilty to an assault charge from a previous incident when he allegedly attacked another driver and was sentenced to anger-management classes. Also, a pair of Houston women who claim they were unwittingly filmed topless for Jones' "Summer Time" video are currently suing the rapper.

The "We Fly High" MC recently reunited with the Diplomats (Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey). The group is finalizing a new record deal with Interscope Records and plans to release an EP called Independence Day this summer.

Chris Evans Says 'Puncture' Character Has 'Meat On The Bone'

'Captain America' star plays a flawed, real-life lawyer in the Tribeca Film Festival entry.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Chris Evans
Photo: MTV News

Chris Evans has played many larger-than-life characters. But those characters have been based purely in the realm of fantasy. In "Puncture," Evans is trying something new: playing someone who existed in the real world. He'll play real-life lawyer Mike Weiss in the flick, and while his character is a "genius," as he describes him, he's also very flawed and very dark.

It was a welcome change for Evans, who recently suited up as the very not-real Captain America.

"Well, I liked the fact that it was a true story," Evans told MTV News. "That's crazy. I never approached a film or developed a character that existed. Usually I'm making something out of some paper, some words on a page; this was different."

Evans explained that the experience was even more fulfilling since he got to know the people in Mike's life. "There are people who know him, who knew him, who loved him," he said. "His family, friends, I got to go to Houston and sit with his parents, friends, coworkers, buddies and just get all these stories about this guy that was just an amazing human being.

"Everyone had the same things to say about him," he continued. "They said he was so brilliant, so like a genuine genius. One of those guys, it was too much; he was beyond this place. He was so amazing at what he did and as a result the byproduct of that type of genius usually comes in the form of sometimes being a little thoughtless towards people, a little arrogant, a little detached and as a result got really heavily into drugs that obviously didn't end well. But it was such a great layered character; there was so much meat on the bone."

Check out everything we've got on "Puncture."

Ja Rule Will Visit 'RapFix Live' On Wednesday

Pain Is Love 2 rapper will take questions from fans during interview.
By Rob Markman

It's Murder! Ja Rule is mounting a comeback in the form of his new album, Pain Is Love 2, and will be joining MTV News' Sway Calloway for an in-depth interview on "RapFix Live" Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

In the early aughts, Queens rapper Ja Rule was a hip-hop juggernaut. As the face of Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. Records, Ja combined melody with hard rap bars to create fan favorites such as "Put It On Me," "Always On Time" and "Holla, Holla," selling millions of records along the way. His beef with rapper 50 Cent, as well as the federal money-laundering case against Murder Inc. proved to be too much for the multi-platinum rap star to overcome, and eventually Rule faded away from the spotlight.

In 2007, things went from bad to worse when Ja was hit with charges stemming from a gun bust outside New York's Beacon Theater after a show he co-billed with Lil Wayne. In December, he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon; he was sentenced to 16 months in February and will begin his prison bid in June.

Before he turns himself in, Ja will release Pain Is Love 2. Last week, he debuted its first single, "Real Life Fantasy," which he performed in New York as a surprise guest on Diddy-Dirty Money's Coming Home Tour.

Tune in Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to watch Ja Rule on "RapFix Live."

Audrina Patridge Rooting For Kirstie Alley On 'Dancing With The Stars'

'She's the underdog, but she gets up and she keeps going,' reality star says.
By Jocelyn Vena

Audrina Patridge
Photo: MTV News

It's been an interesting season for Kirstie Alley on "Dancing With the Stars." She's had several dancing flubs (cue pal John Travolta to lend his support) yet has managed to survive another week as the show's fans bid a fond farewell to supermodel Petra Nemcova on last week's episode.

It seems that Alley keeps getting saved, despite low scores, thanks to some big fans, like former "DWTS" contestant and reality star Audrina Patridge.

"I'm watching 'Dancing With the Stars.' I watched the first couple episodes and I'm definitely rooting for Maks and Kirstie. I really think that Kirstie Alley ... she's the underdog," Patridge told MTV News when she stopped by to talk about her new VH1 reality show, "Audrina." "But she gets up and she keeps going and she has such a great personality."

Audrina was one of the strongest dancers last season, at least technically (she was criticized for lacking some joie de vivre on the dance floor). She didn't end up winning, but she did walk away with a love of all things strictly ballroom.

"I mean, I loved every second of it," she added. "I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's a new passion that I discovered. I love dancing, ballroom dancing."

For now, Audrina has danced her final dance and these days will be focused on showing the world another side of herself on her latest reality TV venture. "It's different and similar [to 'The Hills'], and in many ways I feel like it's different because it's really about my life outside of 'The Hills' world," Patridge said about the show. "And so this is really up close and personal. My family's in it, my relationship's in it and my business is in it, my endorsements and everything, like, my dreams and goals and trying to achieve that."

Tyga Wants Careless World Debut To Tell 'A Story'

The New West frontrunner tells MTV News, 'A lot of people they just know me based off of verses, features.'
By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway and Rob Markman

Tyga
Photo: MTV News

As MTV News' New West Week comes to a close, the question is: which of the myriad of MC talents coming out of the L.A. hip-hop scene is most likely to enjoy mainstream success?

While the acts we've covered — Kendrick Lamar, Pac Div and Nipsey Hussle, to name a few — all have solid chances, the artist with the track record and best tools in place to succeed is Young Money's Tyga.

The Compton rapper already has certified hits under his belt. Even before making his YMCMB affiliation official, Tyga scored a hit with "Coconut Juice" in 2008. Then he made sure he wasn't forgotten among the Young Money pack by dropping guest verses on hits like "BedRock" and "Roger That." But it was last year's collaboration with his buddy Chris Brown on their joint Fan of a Fan mixtape that spawned Tyga's biggest hit to date, the Grammy-nominated "Deuces."

Now Tyga is prepping his forthcoming album, Careless World, which he told MTV News is about 75 percent done.

"You're going to see more of a story and more into Tyga's world and what I represent, the story that I'm trying to tell," Tyga explained about the album. "I feel like a lot of people they just know me based off of verses, features, heavy rap songs, mixtape stuff. Which is cool because I love to do that — this is rap music — but at the same time, I make a lot of real good music also.

"I don't think a lot of people are on to that yet," Tyga added. "I just dropped a mixtape, Black Thoughts 2, that was I say, maybe 25, 35 percent of what my album is going to sound like."

In the meantime, before Careless World gets its release later this year, Tyga is taking his music to the people. Although he isn't a part of the Weezy-headlined I Am Still Music Tour, he's currently on Diddy-Dirty Money's Coming Home Tour.

Diddy thought enough of Tyga to bring him on his tour, and on Thursday MTV News spoke to Young Money president Mack Maine, who told us he's excited about pushing the Cali MC's project forward.

"I'm definitely looking forward, his buzz is up, it's ridiculous," Mack said. "We're about to drop this single soon, it's called 'Far Away,' featuring Chris Richardson and from there it's basically, we need to capitalize. He also has another song that I'm waiting for Nicki [Minaj] to do her verse on. We'll try to drop that single. From there, let's just see when the people are ready for his album. But he got a lot of songs done so we're definitely trying to put him out before the end of the year."

When Careless World does drop it will surely have plenty of YMCMB participation but Tyga assures it won't be a scattershot compilation. "I just like to make the music organic," Tyga said.

"If I feel like, 'This person on this will be real dope,' then I'mma reach out and get the feature. But it's all about making great music. If there's features on every track but it's great music, I mean hey ... either you love it or you don't."

Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, the next wave of hip-hop acts helping restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we'll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. Keep it locked here for the next week for more on the West Coast up-and-comers!

The Black Eyed Peas Are 'Attached' To 'Just Can't Get Enough' Video

Don't miss the Peas' performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

The Black Eyed Peas' Fergie performs "Just Can't Get Enough"
Photo: MTV News

For latest single "Just Can't Get Enough," the Black Eyed Peas ended up making a video love letter to Japan. The group had shot the clip — complete with glitzy shots of the Asian country — just before an earthquake and tsunami struck. The sentiment they feel for the video very much mirrors the emotion that went into making the song.

"We're emotionally attached to it because we recorded the video in Japan five days before this whole thing went down, and it's like the type of song that gets to you in your heart," Taboo told MTV News when we caught up with the group at Terminal 5 in New York, where they were taping a show set to air tonight at midnight ET on MTV.

The song is a sugary-sweet dance track about being infatuated with that special someone. "The message is knowing that when you're gone from somebody, especially when you're on tour, you can't get enough of them or you're just thinking about them and you just want to let them know that you're always there for them," Taboo explained.

The band released the video last month, and they say they could never have known how much it would mean to them. "It was the easiest video I ever shot, because it was us living our lives," Fergie said at the time. "I love that it's showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan. Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster."

Don't miss the Black Eyed Peas' performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV.

'Bang Bang Club' Stars Talk Meeting Their Real-Life Inspirations

'It was very tough for them,' Taylor Kitsch says of photojournalists reliving their pasts.
By Kara Warner

Taylor Kitsch in "The Bang Bang Club"
Photo: Tribeca Film

New film "The Bang Bang Club" revolves around the real-life story of four combat photographers — Greg Marinovich, Joao Silva, Kevin Carter and Ken Oosterbroek — who risked their lives to capture the brutality and violence around the first free elections in post-apartheid South Africa in the early '90s.

Taylor Kitsch and Ryan Philippe star as two of the photographers, along with Malin Akerman as Robin Comley, their conflicted newspaper photo editor. When MTV News caught up with Kitsch and Akerman recently, we discussed the topical nature of the film, as well as the emotional aspect involved in meeting the real-life inspirations for the characters they portrayed.

"When I first met Greg Marinovich, that was a big one for me, and Joao — obviously playing someone that has taken their own life, it hurts them a lot too," Kitsch explained of portraying Carter. "It wasn't that long ago, and obviously these guys went through a lot more than what I have with my best friends. Asking them to talk about that was very hard for them. It turned into quite — it was very tough for them."

Akerman's meeting with the woman who inspired her character was equally emotionally charged.

"I was lucky to have met Robin Comley," she said. "She's a fantastic woman, and she actually came to set one day — she tried coming to set and saw some of the characters in costume, and she just lost it. She couldn't even deal. Like Taylor said, these people, it was like family, so for them to go through this and relive it, I was actually surprised that Greg and Joao were on set pretty much every day reliving everything."

Check out everything we've got on "The Bang Bang Club."

Ever since they were first announced, the O Music Awards have proudly proclaimed themselves the untraditional alternative to the staid world of red carpets, acceptance speeches and celebrity glad-handing.

And for further proof of that point, consider the following: Though the inaugural O Music Awards won't premiere until April 28, the first award will be handed out on Monday at 4 p.m. ET ... and it's a big one.

For weeks, fans have been voting for the Most Innovative Music Video through the O Music Awards official site, and on Monday — in a roundtable debate moderated by MTV News' James Montgomery — a winner will be crowned.

The O Music Awards Debate for the Most Innovative Music Video, presented by Fuze, will stream live on OMusicAwards.com and MTV.com. Joining Montgomery around the table will be acclaimed video director Wayne Isham, Mashable's Brenna Ehrlich and some super-secret celebrity guests.

The Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and more will also take part in the discussion about just what makes a video truly innovative, and the folks who are nominated for the award — a list that includes Arcade Fire, Robyn, OK Go and Andy Grammer — will also Skype in to make the case for why their video deserves to be named Most Innovative.

On Monday morning, the original list of 10 nominees will be whittled down to the top five vote-getters, and then, during the debate, our roundtable and the Internet audience will cut that list down to the final three. At the very end, we'll announce the winner of the very first O Music Award for Most Innovative Video.

The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

Exclusive Trailer: Watch Emma Roberts In 'The Art Of Getting By'

We've got a sneak peek at the trailer for the Sundance favorite formerly known as 'Homework.'
By Eric Ditzian

Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts in "The Art of Getting By"
Photo: Fox Searchlight

Back in January, when it was still called "Homework," Emma Roberts' indie coming-of-age tale became one of the Sundance festival's most buzzy films, selling to Fox Searchlight for reportedly more than $3 million on the same day of its premiere.

"That was our dream!" Roberts said when we caught up with her at Sundance. "I can't believe it happened the day it premiered. I got the call and I freaked out."

Now re-titled "The Art of Getting By" and slated for a June 17 release, MTV News is premiering the film's first trailer. Roberts stars as a popular yet disillusioned high school senior who forms an unlikely bond with Freddie Highmore's artistic outcast toward the end of the school year. He teaches her how to slack off, she basically declares herself open to a romantic advance, and still the twosome can't quite come together.

"What I loved about her is that on paper, she could very much be the cliché of the popular girl, but the way she's written and the way I tried to play her, is that there's much more than that," Roberts told us. "I hate in teen movies when you're categorized as, 'You're this, not that,' when in real life, people are a mixture of everything. I liked that she had this edge to her, but she was also really genuine."

Though Roberts gives Highmore a seriously hard time on screen, they got along very well when the cameras stopped rolling. "Freddie and I had a really great off-camera banter, so on-camera I think it played really well," she said. "We had great chemistry, as they say."
