In the end rapper Lil Wayne came very very close to matching the first week sales total of his album Tha Carter III from back in 2008. It sold 1,005,000 copies in its first week of release. Lil Wayne only missed that mark by just over 40,000 copies with Tha Carter IV. The 964,000 copies sold give him the second biggest sales week of any album in 2011 so far. The biggest sales for the year so far belong to the 1.11 million copies of Lady Gaga's collection Born This Way moved when it first hit the market. However, over 400,000 copies of Born This Way were sold for only 99 cents by Amazon. Lil Wayne did not need such a discount to reach nearly one million music fans. The sales of Tha Carter IV likely have benefited strongly from the success of the single "How To Love" which has reached a number of fans who would typically not be drawn to Lil Waynes' music.
