In terms of attendance, Rock In Rio, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is without a doubt the world's largest music festival. The first Rock In Rio took place in 1985 and drew an attendance of 1.5 million. The second Rock in Rio in 1991 drew 700,000 and the third in 2001 counted 1.2 million in attendance. Since 2001 there have been six spinoff festivals. Four of those took place in Lisbon, Portugal and two in Madrid, Spain. Beginning tonight the festival returns to Rio de Janeiro. A total of seven nights, three this weekend, and four next will feature many of the world's top pop and rock acts. The festival will have live streaming coverage on YouTube if you can't make it to Brazil. Top acts for each date are listed below.
