It is no big surprise that Adele would lead the field, but it might be a little surprising that LMFAO are next in line. Billboard has announced the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards and Adele is named in 18 categories. Party rockers LMFAO are listed in 17 and next up is Rihanna in 13 categories. The awards reflect Billboard chart rankings in a period that extends from March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. The ceremonies will take place and be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas May 20, 2012. Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Lil Wayne will compete for Top Artist, the acknowledged biggest prize of the night. The competitors for Top New Artist are Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Foster the People, Scotty McCreery, and Wiz Khalifa.
