Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys Dies At Age 47

In another tragic loss for the music industry, Adam Yauch, founding member of the Beastie Boys, has died at age 47. He had been battling cancer since 2009. His illness caused him to be absent from the Beastie Boys' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April this year. He was often referred to by his stage name MCA. The Beastie Boys first came together in 1978 as a hardcore punk band and performed their first live show in 1981. The trio began incorporating rap in 1983 and had their pop chart breakthrough with the top 10 hit "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)" in 1987. The album Licensed To Ill hit #1 and was ultimately certified nine times platinum. Through a series of seven more studio albums, including three more #1s, the group became critically acclaimed innovators.
