The Parlor Mob - Studio Update

New Jersey based rockers The Parlor Mob have completed recording their highly anticipated new album and follow-up to And You Were A Crow. The sophomore effort was produced by Matt Radosevich and tracked in Austin, Texas. Roadrunner Records recently had the chance to sit down with the band to shed some light on the new album.

Be sure to check out the new photo gallery which gives you an inside like at the recording process.

Roadrunner Records: The voice of The Parlor Mob is one-of-a-kind. Frontman Mark Melicia had this to say about where he is heading lyrically on the new album:

Mark Melicia:

The lyrical content of this record picks up where And You Were A Crow left off. It could be compared to chapters in a book. The story line progresses but the points of view and protagonists remain the same. Themes of the struggle to find your way, social observations, and personal reflections continue but, in new more realized ways. The level of song writing has progressed greatly, as well as the musical landscapes, providing a more vivid experience for the listener. And You Were A Crow was the voice of young men searching for themselves in a brand new world of adult hood. This latest effort is the roar of those same young men now deeply rooted in their sense of selves.

Roadrunner Records: One of the defining qualities of The Parlor Mob sound is the distinct guitar voices of both Paul Ritchie and David Rosen. The approach on the new recordings and their interaction in their own words:

Paul Ritchie:

Dave and I have been playing together for a long time at this point so the interaction between the two of us is never discussed. It’s just something we do, and have done for awhile now. It’s just like anything else, the more you do it the better you get, more comfortable, more mature. It becomes second nature.

The tones and performances (on this album) are completely different because the material is completely different. We do our best to make sure that the tones compliment the songs because in the end that's all that matters.  The performances are all taken from our live tracks with a punch in, or overdub here and there.

Dave Rosen:

For me I've found that after however many years, Paul and I don't really have to think about the interaction between us anymore. We both just pick up each others’ slack and shove each other further along the road as songwriters and guitarists. We know more than ever when to counter each other, when to jump out ahead of one another and when to play as one guitarist. We certainly don't think about it anymore, it just comes naturally when we're writing now. As far as our tones and performances go, we've learned a lot about what it is we like and how to achieve it exactly.  Our Producer Matt is very adamant about us achieving exactly what we want, which is amazing. He never tells us, "That’s too crazy", or "That’s too ugly" or anything. If I'm doing a track and I make some horrendous squeal that peaks out on the board, and I like it, Matt doesn't tell me to change it, he changes the mic setup or whatever to capture it. He appreciates what we're doing and it makes it easier for us to expand our horizons both in tones and performances.  We don't feel limited at all. In fact, Paul and I are taking an approach to this record of using the experimentation we've gotten used to from live shows and just applying it to the record.

We're literally doing whatever we want, and it's great.

Roadrunner Records: Rhythm is one of the driving forces of The Parlor Mob’s live performances. Drummer Sam Bey wanted a new approach this time around in an effort to capture his live sound on tape.

Sam Bey:

Recording the drums for this new record was much different than on And You Were A Crow. Our producer Matt is really into drums so a lot more time was spent getting the right sounds for the right songs. He and I sat down first thing and kind of mapped out the songs - which songs were going to have a bigger sound along with a close mic “in tight” kind of sound. We were constantly switching out snares until we got the right sound. Matt has an amazing ear so we also spent some time actually tuning drums to the key of the song we were recording. I thought that was a very interesting approach. As far as my actual playing, I really concentrated on playing for the song. We decided that we were not going to use the best take just because it was perfect and instead use the take that felt the best even if it wasn't perfect. On And You Were A Crow, I remember really trying to play my parts well. This time around the parts kind of played themselves so to speak. I think that really says a lot about the songs this time around. It’s going to come across great on the record. People can tell when listening to a record if the music was over thought. You can truly tell on these recordings that we are loose and just playing together in the room.

Roadrunner Records: Part of the retooling process for the band has been a personnel change in the rhythm section. Newcomer Anthony has been a friend of the band for years, so the fit was an easy one as the band’s new bass player.

Anthony Chick:

It has been great. I feel very fortunate to be involved in a project that is so professional and talented. The approach I took to finding my identity on this record was to just kinda not over think anything and do what comes natural to me. Understanding ideas and getting the feel of things and just letting whatever felt right happen. If I felt like what I wrote wasn't right or if I didn’t quite get an idea, I would ask questions and have an open mind to any ideas. I think the main thing I did was to always play instinctively.

Odd Future's South By Southwest Adventure: Watch Now!

MTV News cameras capture L.A. collective's 2011 SXSW journey.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Christopher "CJ" Smith

Odd Future's Tyler, the Creator
Photo: MTV News

By now, the carnage has been cleared and the backlash has already begun, but earlier this month, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All — the 10-member Los Angeles rap collective/sleeper cell with whom we are currently obsessed — stormed the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, playing more shows than anyone could possibly fathom (officially/unofficially, the number stands at seven), leaving a path of destruction and laceration in their wake.

In the process, they might have also moved from the blogosphere to the big time, wowing audiences with their unhinged performances, conducting a string of bizarre interviews and bonding with everyone from Erykah Badu to Diddy in between.

And while almost every media outlet on the planet was clamoring for time with the group, only MTV News was granted access to their inner circle. Our cameras were with them for the entirety of their SXSW experience, starting with their eye-popping performance at the mtvU Woodie Awards on March 16 and culminating with a Saturday-night set at the infamous Vice party on the 19th. We also caught them in the moments between shows, as they skated through Austin, screwed around in dressing rooms and basically did everything that's elevated them to their newfound status as hip-hop's most fascinating collective.

We've cut together the best moments in a sprawling video piece that's just as unhinged as Odd Future themselves, and, as they prepare to take the next steps in their fledgling careers — namely, new albums from Tyler, the Creator and the duo known as MellowHype — we're rolling it out for you. If you've slept on them so far, consider it a crash course in all things OFWGKTA. And if you've been with them since day one, well, then perhaps these videos can serve as a time capsule — capturing the moment when they graduated to the (sorta) mainstream.

Regardless, it's the kind of stuff that's too compelling to keep under wraps. So here, for your viewing pleasure, are the Wonderful Adventures of Odd Future at SXSW.

Which is your favorite Odd Future moment? Tell us below!

Lady Gaga To Be V Magazine Columnist

Column will focus on art and fashion.
By Jocelyn Vena

Pop star, entrepreneur, philanthropist: Is there anything Lady Gaga doesn't find the time to do? Well, it seems that she's made room in her schedule to add a new job to her ever-growing résumé.

Gaga just announced she will have a column in V magazine. "I begin next month as a Fashion+Art Columnist for @VMagazine," she tweeted.

In an e-mail to MTV News, the magazine revealed that her first column, in which Gaga "will be gracing us with the presence of her pen [as] she weighs in on all things fashion throughout her multiverse," will appear in the summer issue of V, out on May 12. And she's even letting her little monsters get in on the fun.

In a project called, fittingly, "Drawn This Way," the magazine will hold a running contest allowing fans to submit drawings of their Mother Monster; the best one will run as the author headshot alongside Gaga's column. Gaga and the magazine will pick the winners together.

All media are welcome, and the magazine adds, "We are asking all artists, creators and little monsters to submit illustrations of our new columnist dressed in her most studious ensemble."

In the same tweet, Gaga added, "I'll be resurrecting 'TRANSMISSION GAGAVISION' episodes starting next week!" "TG" was the star's Web series that gave fans an inside look at her life. There are no further details yet on the rebooted series.

Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Is Her 'Strongest Album,' Critics Say

Leading pop critics praise the 'craftsmanship' on the singer's 'great dance pop' release.
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi

On Tuesday (March 29), Britney Spears released her latest album, Femme Fatale to much fanfare and critical praise.

Femme Fatale is a dark, churning, cohesive 12-track record that will have fans on the dance floor from beginning to end. From the opening track and current single, the Ke$ha-penned "Till the World Ends," to the last, the slower "Criminal," the momentum never stops.

Peppered in the mix are dance tunes, complete with dubsteps, feisty breakdowns, NSFW lyrics and thumping beats. Spears hooked up with a number of chart-topping producers and songwriters, including Dr. Luke, Max Martin, will.i.am and Claude Kelly.

The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am also lent his vocals to their "Big Fat Bass" single, while pop newbie Sabi lent her to the song "(Drop Dead) Beautiful." And Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker shows up on one of the deluxe-edition tracks, "Don't Keep Me Waiting."

"Femme Fatale is definitely Britney's strongest album overall," Ian Drew, senior music editor at Us magazine, told MTV News. Drew, who gave the album four stars, added, "The songs speak for themselves; it's unapologetically a great dance pop album."

Adam Markowitz, an Entertainment Weekly correspondent, gave the album a solid B+.

"It works for her because it shows that she can continue to produce really solid material," Markowitz told us. "This is a totally strong, cohesive album."

While her manager, Larry Rudolph, recently compared the new album to Madonna's Ray of Light, Drew had a different Madge comparison in mind.

"It reminds me of Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor, which is a similar album," he said. "You put it on as you're getting ready all night and going out on the town and you can keep it going. So this is one of those records you can put on and there isn't a weak track, which is great."

Femme Fatale easily stands up to one of Brit's strongest releases, Drew said. "I would say up until this point Blackout was her best album, and that's what this album really compares to because Blackout was nothing but great dance pop."

Markowitz agreed, noting that her latest album shows off the many sides of Spears. "There's no looking at this album and not seeing a lot of craftsmanship on it. I think it's a great showcase for her personality and her vocal styles. She sounds really lively on the album," he said. "It's about as good as Blackout, which I think surprised everyone as being a pretty strong album."

For more on the making of the album, fans can check out the upcoming MTV special, "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale." A trailer with more details premieres Tuesday night at 7:58 p.m. ET on MTV.

Mindless Behavior Enlist Ciara, Tyga, Lil Twist For 'My Girl' Remix Video

'These kids are stars to me,' Ciara tells MTV News on the clip's set.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker, with reporting by Kara Warner

Mindless Behavior might be made up of four boys in their early teens, but that hasn't stopped them from grabbing the attention of established stars like Ciara, Lil Twist and Tyga, who are all featured on the remix of their hit debut single "My Girl."

The remix video debuted on BET's "106 and Park" on Monday (March 28), and MTV was on the set with the young stars a few weeks ago, just days before they kicked off their tour as Janet Jackson's opening act.

" 'My Girl' needs to just branch out," said Ray Ray, surrounded by his bandmates. " 'My Girl' is the best record ever!"

As a follow-up to their video for the original version of the song, the 'My Girl' remix video delivers plenty of choreographed dancing, references to the art and etiquette of text messaging, and teenage girls dancing around the miniature heartthrobs.

In the video, Ciara dances alongside Mindless Behavior in an industrial-like setting. Lil Twist and Tyga rap in a room full of excited fans while the boys dance along.

"A year ago, we were fans of these artists," Princeton noted. "And now we're working with them. Just to know that is great."

Ciara jumped at the opportunity to work alongside the boys. "These kids are stars to me, and they asked me to be part of the remix," she said. "I was like, 'I'm gonna be a part of this!' "

Once a teen prodigy herself, Ciara already shared something in common with Mindless Behavior. "I remember when I was young. It's really just about being a part of something that's young and fresh and something that I believe in. In this case, they're young and I want to make sure I fit in that way. I give them the young 'CiCi' in me, I guess you could say."

What do you think of the new video? Let us know in the comments!

Trina Aims For 'Fun And Energetic' With Diamonds Are Forever

The Miami MC gears up for the summer early with new EP in Mixtape Daily.

This Week's Main Pick

Queen of Hearts: Trina

Holding It Down For: Miami

Mixtape Album: Diamonds Are Forever

Real Spit: Taking a page out of Kanye West's notebook, Trina still insists that diamonds are a girl's best friend. While fans wait for the Miami starlet to unveil her sixth untitled studio album later this year, the Slip-N-Slide flagship artist is feeding her heavily dedicated fanbase with a 12-track EP of all new original material. A few weeks back, Miss MIA dropped the Rick Ross collabo "Waist So Skinny," providing a glimpse of what was to come on Diamonds. To give her Diamonds Are Forever mixture the official stamp of approval, Trina has partnered with the good folks here at Mixtape Daily for the official mixtape release.

"The concept of the mixtape is just a new direction of music," Trina told us on the phone from the Sunshine State. "It's really fun and energetic, a different drive. I tried different types of music. I worked with a bunch of different artists, different producers, different sounds. I just wanted to do something that was fun and energetic. It's the summer. It's, like, the mini-CD to my new album. And I just wanted to have fun."

Joints to Check For

» "Diamonds Are Forever": On the title track, Trina makes it clear she expects to be treated like nothing less than royalty. After more than a decade in the game and millions of records sold, the female MC shows she hasn't missed a beat.

» "Waist So Skinny," featuring Rick Ross: Trina reunites with the Dade County bawse on the bouncy track reminiscent of their previous work together. "Waist So Skinny" was the initial track to leak off Diamonds featuring the onetime labelmates. "See, I'm a boss bitch/ I stunt first class/ I got insurance/ See, I don't f--- with hoes, because they sideways/ I get this money by myself 99 ways."

Britney Spears Steals Hearts At San Francisco Show

Brit performs Femme Fatale tracks, shouts out LGBT teens at concert set to air Tuesday on 'Good Morning America.'

SAN FRANCISCO — The city of San Francisco loves Britney Spears and that love was apparent at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where the pop star performed some of her brand-new Femme Fatale club bangers on Sunday afternoon (March 27).

The excited roomful of fans were among the lucky group tapped to watch her tape a "Good Morning America" performance, which will air on Tuesday, the same day her album drops.

Check out hot photos of Britney's "GMA" performance.

Before Spears even hit the stage, five fabulous drag queens warmed up the crowd and declared their adoration for the femme fatale herself. Their sassy back-and-forth was followed by Cheer SF, a cheerleading act. After the room was sufficiently warmed up, "GMA" hosts Sam Champion and Robin Roberts came onstage to introduce Spears.

From a set that mirrored the one used in her Las Vegas show two nights ago, Spears kicked off with her lead single, "Hold It Against Me." She dazzled the crowd with an engaging performance, dancing around in a stunning silver bodysuit. After the song, she smiled, telling the crowd "It's beautiful" being in San Francisco to perform for them.

After a change of clothes into a body-hugging, black bodysuit, Spears got sexy for the will.i.am collabo "Big Fat Bass." As she shimmied to the thumping track, fans cheered along.

Spears even gave a shout-out to the local gay youths who were in attendance from the Larkin Street homeless shelter and the LYRIC center for LGBT youth. "They're in the front row; thanks for coming," she said.

Between songs, Roberts and Champion taped intros and the former teased a top-secret announcement Britney is set to make on Tuesday when the show airs.

Spears then performed one more track, her second single, "Till the World Ends," to cap off the performance. After her last song, an excited-looking Britney gazed at her fans and told them she was looking forward to releasing her new album: "I love music. It's my world, it's my everything."

Before she left the stage, Brit was presented with a certificate from the city, and she thanked them exuberantly for the super reception.

Perez Hilton Reveals Birthday Wishes For Lady Gaga, Anti-Bullying

Celeb blogger blew out the candles at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash, telling MTV News he'll donate event proceeds to an LGBT charity.
By Kelley L. Carter

LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton had two wishes for his birthday this year.

The 33-year-old blogger, who celebrated in grand Hollywood fashion on Saturday night at a Sunset Boulevard studio in Los Angeles, says that if he has his way, two things will come to pass: Lady Gaga's Born This Way will be a super hot-selling album and teen bullying will cease.

"My birthday wish for this year is for Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, to sell over 1.2 million copies the first week," he said, pausing to give off a mock-sinister laugh. "That would beat Taylor Swift's 1.1-something!"

That was actually the only kind-of-mean thing the notorious blogger said at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash on Saturday. And it could be the last. Perez said he has cleaned up his act, largely due to the teen bullying that's been well-documented over the past year.

"When there was that rash of gay teenagers committing suicide last year, and the bullying that is still going on, I was so moved. So moved that I changed how I operate on my website. When it came time to do my birthday, the idea came to me to raise money for charity and, of course, I wanted it to be a LBGT organization. And of course it was important for to work with one for young people," he told MTV News.

So what does that kind of change mean? For starters, it means Perez may not have to duck celebrities anymore. He's been trying to stick to the facts, he said, and do less of the ad-libs like drawing on their paparazzi photographs. He also opened up about how he apologized to Jennifer Aniston for how he treated her over the years on his blog.

"The great thing about being the new and more positive Perez is that I, hopefully, will be having less awkward, uncomfortable, negative confrontations with people," he said. "But hey, I'm a big boy. I've done things in the past I'm not that proud of."

What do you think of Perez's birthday wishes? Tell us in the comments!

'Sucker Punch' Secrets Revealed!

MTV News spoke with filmmaker Zack Snyder and the cast about the making of the fantastical battle movie.
By Kara Warner

Emily Browning in "Sucker Punch"
Photo: Warner Bros.

At long last, Zack Snyder's mysterious, "Alice in Wonderland With Machine Guns" film "Sucker Punch" has arrived in theaters. MTV News has been on the case since its humble beginnings, bringing you all the news, videos, scoops and interviews ... in a nutshell, everything you need to know.

To celebrate the film's opening day, we present a few more fun facts about the film that we learned directly from the film's director/writer Zack Snyder and the cast.

1. Snyder's original plan for the movie was to build it around a big musical number.
"I had this idea that it'd be cool if we used the musical number for the spine of the movie or the spine of the action sequence," Snyder told MTV News. "And then getting in and out of it would be like, the music would start and that would draw us in. That would be the sort of mechanism for the fantasy to begin, and when the music ended, that would be the mechanism for it ending. And that was sort of how it started."

2. Inspiration for the look of the film came from the adult fantasy magazine Heavy Metal.
"I still read it, actually," Snyder said. "It's got little short stories in it and they're illustrated. And so it's like a comic strip that has more sex and violence than you would get from a normal comic book," Snyder said, adding that he started reading the magazine in his youth. "I think it influenced this movie in a pretty big way."

3. For the high-action "train sequence," Snyder used hundreds of shots to look like one, which took seven days to shoot.
"[The train sequence] is a sequence that's broken up into maybe 120 shots that look like one shot," Snyder explained. "So you just kind of have to know where the cameras are going and knowing where it came from, and put these little camera moves in and all these shifts that have to happen. ... You shoot one angle and then you shoot the other angle and then it's going to be stitched with the CG section. So you have to know what you're capable of," he said. "How far you can push the CG stitch so it doesn't break the shot. There's a whole bunch of things like that."

4. Everyone in the cast is wearing a ton of makeup.
Even for Oscar Isaac, who plays creepy institution overlord Blue Jones and has the privilege of being one of the only men in the cast, the makeup process was extensive.

"I remember they would spray-tan me and then put an extra coat of shine on it," he recalled. "Then blush and then tons of eyeliner. My hair was basically glued tight to my head."

But compared to what the ladies endured, Isaac's process wasn't that bad. Carla Gugino told us the filmmakers wanted the makeup to make a statement, and that she spent at least two hours in the makeup chair every morning.

"We definitely had so much fun," Gugino said. "Rosalina [Da Silva] designed the look of the film makeup-wise. And we did 'Watchmen' together as well," she explained. "She's amazing. But there was a point when she said, 'Carla, guess how many sets of lashes you have on your eyes?' and I was like, 'Including my real ones?' and she was like, 'Yes.' And we realized that it was four."

5. Snyder had to cut back on the violence in the movie, particularly a few scenes that involve implied or attempted rape.
"Those [scenes] of course got trimmed away," he said. "It's really delicate because even that subject matter, you have the harder version that is sometimes better because it actually makes the point a little bit more directly. The PG-13 version was difficult for me," he revealed. "I would say that the very things that they didn't like were the very things that you needed to see in order for you to understand the content of the scene. You know, to know how to feel about it, because otherwise you're sort of left in this weird middle ground," he said. "So it's difficult. It's tricky."

Snyder went on to explain why the sexual violence and lobotomy images were necessary to include in the film, juxtaposed with the idea of women not being victims and being able to defend themselves.

"For me it was all about having incredible threat in that world. Like, what is the most dangerous thing? What is the worst possible thing, and to me being lobotomized and then raped is probably the worst possible thing," he explained. "I like the idea that the verdict or the ... like if someone were to make a sacrifice, and you have two alternatives and one is just go back to jail. OK. You know, I get that. And one is you know, be lobotomized and then possibly raped for the rest of your zombified life. You know, you really need to think about that. You're giving up a lot, I guess, is my point."

'Jersey Shore' Stars 'Can't Wait' To Shoot In Italy

Gondola rides, learning a new language, falling in love: Deena and Vinny tell MTV News their plans for next season and beyond.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian and Ade Mangum

The third season of "Jersey Shore" wrapped on Thursday night, but Seaside's finest are already planning for the next installment of the show, which will take them to Italy. And that means the cast should probably brush up on their pregos and grazies before they land in the home of delicious spaghetti, fine leather goods and the Pope.

"Can't wait! I honestly can't wait to get there and see the place," Deena told MTV News this week. "For some reason, I really want to go on a gondola ride. Or I would like if we're in Rome, I would like to see the love fountain, so I'm thinking I'll steal a coin ... maybe I'll fall in love."

Meanwhile, her castmate Vinny told us he'd prepare for the next season of the hit reality series the same way he has for all of the past seasons.

"Preparing for Italy is pretty much preparing for any of the other seasons, trying to get in shape, trying to spend some time with my family, chill out, the quiet before the storm," he said. "I'm excited to be thrown right into the water with whatever language skills I have."

But the cast is also busier than ever with other projects and gigs.

Pauly D's ramping up for the debut of his own reality show, and fans can catch him spinning tunes at his DJ residency at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Vinny got a plum role on "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" and revealed he's got some musical abilities, saying, "I dabble in music and it's something I do for fun and if it's good, it's good." No word on whether he'll pursue that any further, but Vinny did add that he'd love to pursue more acting. "My future is very open. I like to do scripted types of things," he told us.

Snooki and JWoww have followed a somewhat similar path: Both are published authors, and both have appeared on wrestling-type programs. Now there's chatter the two ladies might get their own show, casting them as reality-TV version of "Laverne and Shirley."

The Situation, of course, is already a budding entrepreneur, with a book and fitness DVD in stores and other deals in the pipeline. Earlier this year, the former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant began working on YOBI.tv's "Random Talent" Web series with British comedian Ben Green.

What did you think of the season finale of "Jersey Shore"? Tell us in the comments!

Album Sales Up For Five Straight Weeks For the First Time Since 2004

Has the music industry in the US finally hit bottom in the long decline of album sales? Many of us are far too nervous to call it that yet, but the picture is the brightest it has been in a long long time. Billboard reports the guesses on what exactly is going on, but they are simply that, guesses. What we do know is that catalog album sales are starting to surge while sales of new albums is holding steady. Sales of individual single tracks is surging even more, so the overall sales picture for music is good right now. It does look like the trend should continue at least into the next couple of weeks. This week was the strongest set of new releases yet this year, and next week Britney Spears...

Britney Spears Announces Las Vegas Nightclub Performance

'Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore,' she tweets before tonight's Rain gig with DJ Pauly D from 'Jersey Shore.'
By James Dinh

With less than a week until Femme Fatale hits stores, Britney Spears is adding another date to her promotional calendar. The "Hold It Against Me" singer took to her Twitter on Friday afternoon (March 25) to announce a performance at Rain nightclub at Las Vegas' Palms Casino and Resort scheduled for later this evening.

"Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore. Whos coming to watch me take the stage TONIGHT at @RainLasVegas at @PalmsLasVegas?" the pop star tweeted. "You're all invited. Be there or be square bitch!"

Check out hot photos from Britney's Las Vegas show.

Britney is no stranger to the Rain stage. Back in 2003, the pop titan gave fans a sneak peek of her album In the Zone by surprising about 1,800 clubgoers with a 30-minute set, which included songs like "Me Against the Music" and "Breathe on Me."

Spears' Vegas performance is the latest in her string of promotional ventures for her upcoming LP. Last week, it was confirmed that she would pre-tape her "Good Morning America" appearance on Sunday, two days before it will air on the show. On the day of her album release, she will also appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" for a late-night performance of her two latest singles: "Till the World Ends" and "Hold It Against Me."

In addition to her concert specials, MTV will dedicate March 29 to the singer for what is being dubbed a "Britney Takeover" day. The entertainer will also make appearances on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and the Kids' Choice Awards on April 2.

Spears has been keeping fans on the edge of their seats for months with video and song teasers leading up to Femme Fatale's Tuesday release. When MTV News interviewed Britney's manager, Larry Rudolph, after the premiere of her "Hold It Against Me" video, he had high praise for the pop star's latest project, comparing the album to a Madonna classic.

"In my opinion, this is her strongest album ever. It's somewhat of a departure from what she's done. It's more mature," Rudolph told us last month. "It's more of a dance record and this really is ... Britney's Ray of Light album."

What are you expecting from Spears' new album? Let us know in the comments below!

Dance Diva Loleatta Holloway Dies At Age 64

She will be best remembered by pop fans for her booming sampled vocals on Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's massive 1991 #1 pop single "Good Vibrations." It included segments of Loleatta Holloway's vocals from the 1980 #1 dance hit "Love Sensation." However, she was also a star dance music diva for more than 20 years hitting the top of the dance charts providing vocals for Dan Hartman's 1979 classic "Relight My Fire," uncredited vocals on Black Box's "Ride On Time," and with her own dance smash "Shout To the Top" from 1998. 'Hard Times Of RJ Berger' Stars Rave About Weezer, Paris Hilton Cameos

'Jersey Shore' star Vinny also stops by for new season, which kicks off Thursday at 11 p.m. ET on MTV.
By Vanessa WhiteWolf

With the second season of "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" set to return to MTV on Thursday at 11 p.m. ET, the already large ensemble cast is getting past the sophomore slump by adding some star power in the way of some huge guest stars.

The first one fans can look forward to seeing is "Jersey Shore" star Vinny Guadagnino, who plays RJ's cousin in the March 28 episode. Jareb Dauplaise, who co-stars as RJ's sidekick Miles, told MTV News: "To get Vinny on the show is funny, because the episode is titled 'My Cousin Vinny.' So what more would you want than the most famous Vinny I think we got right now? So we are finally going to learn how to GTL from the original GTL member himself."

Jayson Blair, who plays RJ and Miles' archenemy Max, admitted, "You see these [reality] shows and you don't know what to expect because people are always different. I talked to him here and there at events, but when he came onto set, he was super focused and super dedicated and really passionate about acting, which I couldn't be more excited for. And he was great."

Fellow reality star Paris Hilton also dropped by the set, to the delight of Dauplaise and his family.

"Paris Hilton comes on the show, and I was lucky enough to have the scene with her, and Paris is great," Dauplaise gushed. "She's beautiful, and my mom's a big fan of Paris Hilton. Actually, my mom got to meet Paris, and they got along great!"

And Weezer, whose Pinkerton album provides the name of the show's fictional high school, also make an appearance in the new season.

"It's actually the one band that I've never gotten the chance to see live until I met them on the show, and of course I was like, 'Hey can I please get some tickets? You know, come see you guys for free?' " said self-proclaimed "huge" Weezer fan Dauplaise. "Rivers Cuomo is great. Got to go with Paul [who plays RJ Berger] to the set of 'Magic,' the video Weezer shot with B.o.B, and it was great to meet them all. Just so cool to look at these guys that you've been listening to for over a decade now."

Amber Lancaster almost didn't make the cut for Weezer's big scene. "I was, like, so mad, because I was originally not in that script, and I was like, 'I want to be at that concert! I love Weezer!' So they wrote me into that episode. That was cool. So you'll see me [my character] Jenny gets to go to Weezer."

Don't miss "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" season premiere Thursday at 11 p.m. following the "Jersey Shore" season finale on MTV.

Elizabeth Berkley's 'Ask Elizabeth' Book Tells Girls They're 'Not Alone'

'I think this was, honestly, the perfect time to write this book,' the 'Saved by the Bell' alum tells MTV News.
By Patrick Hester, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi

Elizabeth Berkley's "Ask Elizabeth"
Photo: Rogers & Cowan/Penguin Books

Elizabeth Berkley told MTV News it's "the perfect time" for her latest project, "Ask Elizabeth," a self-help book for teenage girls that dropped Tuesday (March 21).

The book is an expansion of her website of the same name launched back in 2006. Berkley, who has been married to actor Greg Lauren since 2008, started the venture after her husband mentioned the amount of teen girls coming up to her for advice.

"I think this was, honestly, the perfect time to write this book, because as we all know, in the media, for years now, people have been talking about the issues with our teen girls, but no one has really been talking about how to help our girls," the actress told MTV News. "I think now more than ever, there's a great need. The ability to know that they're not alone, and other girls are going through it too and how they can help each other."

The "Showgirls" actress also mentions that good relationships between girls are important, saying that "friendship is a really big core part of the book, because I know for girls ... friendships run so deep and I know that girls identify themselves some much by the group of friends they hang out with."

When Berkley played Jessie Spano on the '90s hit "Saved by the Bell," friendship was a big theme of the show. But while she still gets approached by fans who want her to re-create the now-famous "I'm so excited, I'm so excited, I'm so ... scared" scene from "Saved by the Bell," she said that period of her life isn't addressed in "Ask Elizabeth."

"I don't talk about the 'Saved by the Bell' time in the book," she said. "I talk about other periods in my professional life, but more having to do with me now as a woman."

Chris Brown Calls 'Look At Me Now' His 'First Rap Video'

C.Breezy gets assists from Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and dons Jordans for his best Mars Blackmon impression in bouncy new clip.
By Rebecca Thomas

Chris Brown
Photo: MTV News

It's gotta be the moves. Chris Brown, all rubbery limbs and sporting a Mars Blackmon-inspired bicycle cap, shows off some fleet-footed footwork in his new "Look at Me Now" video. With looks from Young Money captain Lil Wayne and a fire-breathing Busta Rhymes, a pile of '90s-era baggy sweats and tees, a series of ferocious dance battles, as well as an ode to those classic Nike/Jordan spots, the dizzying clip leaves you breathless. And that's exactly how Chris wanted it.

" 'Look at Me Now' is kind of like my first rap, rap video," Chris laughed when he sat down with MTV News on Friday. "I wanted to do like old school, not really old school but, like, back-in-the-day [style]."

Back in the day, for the 21-year-old, meant reviving 1990s staples like "big baggy clothes" and "a lot of art, graffiti." "I tried to blend all of those components into one and make it fun and exciting," he told us.

With the song's swirling production (courtesy of Diplo and Jean Baptiste) setting the breakneck pace, the Collin Tilley-directed video for "Look at Me Now" lets C.Breezy showcase his inner-MC — Brown instructs his doubters to "say hi" to a section of his anatomy some fans may now be all too familiar with — but it also lets him play with his budding Renaissance Man thing, capturing Chris as crooner, dancer and artist.

In several hilarious frames, the F.A.M.E. singer turns up cheesing in the horn-rimmed glasses and baseball jersey that were the signature of director Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon creation, a bespectacled superfan who hawked Jordans in the early '90s for Nike. In those vintage ads, Mars set out to decode just what made baller Michael Jordan "the best player in the universe" — eventually ruling out the extra-long shorts, the haircut, etc., and zeroing in one element: "it's gotta be the shoes."

"I kind of did the Mars Blackmon outfit with the Brooklyn [hat] and the whole [outfit], I always was a fan of that and that was always fresh to me when I saw Spike Lee with Jordan," Chris explained. "So I was like, man, I'mma do that outfit just to pay tribute to him."

Of course, Chris didn't pull off his first official hip-hop vid on his own. Assists from Lil Tunechi and Busta give the visual added heft. And Brown said the song, like the video, works because the collabos are organic. (Weezy's a longtime collaborator and Busta's rapid-fire flow feels tailor-made for the track.)

"Working with Wayne is always incredible. I've had Wayne on every single album I've done," he added. "Being able to work with these guys is incredible," he said of Bus and Wayne. "I think I build most of my collaborations off of the relationships that I built with these guys over the years."

Chris' new album, F.A.M.E., drops on Tuesday.

What do you think of the "Look at Me Now" video? Tell us in the comments!
