Scotty McCreery Is Youngest Man To Top Album Chart With Debut Release

18 year old Scotty McCreery, this year's American Idol champion, is setting records with his debut album Clear As Day. It sold 197,000 copies in its first week of release making it the easy #1 on this week's upcoming Billboard album chart. That makes Scotty McCreery the youngest male artist ever to debut at #1 with their first album. The previous record holder was Omarion who opened at #1 with his first release O when he was 20. Omarion was already familiar to pop fans having been a member of the R&B boy band B2K. Scotty McCreery is also the first country artist to debut at #1 with his first album. One final note is that Clear As Day opens with a better sales total than the last two American Idol winners. David Cook, who sold 280,000 copies of his self-titled first album in its first week in 2008, was the last American Idol winner to have a better opening week than Scotty McCreery.
